Destined Prey for Bailey Bradford

Thank you for joining us!
This book was written as a fundraiser for Peyton Hollingsworth, a family friend of Bailey's who has been diagnosed with cancer.

*All proceeds and royalties from this book will be donated to help pay the medical bills for Peyton Hollingsworth. While he is currently being treated at St. Jude’s for Ewing’s Sarcoma, and treatment there is free, there are accumulated bills from his treatment and diagnosis before being sent to St. Jude’s.

  About Peyton:

Peyton is a funny, loving, 11-year old boy who loves playing outside, riding go-carts, and Batman. In April, we found out he had cancer. Peyton has asthma, and often had to have nebulizer treatments, so when he was having trouble breathing, his doctor thought it was asthma. But nothing worked to ease his breathing, and the doctor sent Peyton to the hospital for a suspected collapsed lung. From one day to the next, it went from us thinking he had a severe bout of asthma to finding out that he had a tumor pressing his lung up until it was almost completely obscured, and he couldn’t get much, if any, air into it.

Peyton was sent to St. Jude’s and diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. The mass was attached to one rib, and was spreading. He has undergone radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy, several transfusions and MRI’s, numerous tests and received numerous shots. It’s been a rough, rough time for the Hollingsworth family, and we are hoping to help them out.

While St. Jude’s doesn’t charge for treatment, the Hollingsworth family has accumulated medical bills from Peyton’s doctor and hospitalization before he was sent to St. Jude’s.

Cherri, his mother, has been unable to work during this time, and the financial constraints are something they could really use help overcoming. We are currently awaiting another MRI to be scheduled and done to see if all the cancer has been eradicated. We are hopeful and have faith that Peyton will be in remission and the cancer will not have spread or reoccur.

I will keep updating this as we get more information. We should know more within a few days, but I wanted to go ahead and get a jump start on this, so that we can help his family financially, so this will be one less thing that they have to stress about.

If you'd like to help, a Go Fund Me campaign has been set up: https://www.gofundme.com/okwdr0

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and donations

Blurb: Wild Ones book 1 Destined Prey

All Jack Tucker wanted was to come home for a little while and try to figure out where his life had gone wrong. Moving from Wyoming to New York hadn’t turned out the way he’d thought it would, and a bad breakup leaves him bruised in more than just the emotional sense.

He doesn’t expect to be glad he’s back on the Double T Ranch with his brother, Rhett, and he sure doesn’t expect to find the place crawling with coywolves, wolves, and coyotes.

There seems to be some kind of animal-warfare going on, and he and Rhett are caught in the middle of it.

Coywolves—the hybrid of wolves and coyotes, hated by both, and more predatory than either.

Add in the fact that all the battling species are shifters, and there’s bound to be trouble.

Ben Akers is part of his brother’s pack. The only coywolf shifters in existence, they find themselves under constant attack from wolf and coyote packs determined to make the Akers pack extinct. But coywolves don’t die out so easy, and when Ben’s life takes a surprising turn in the form of one sexy human named Jack Tucker, they’re both in for surprises, danger, and, if Destiny rules, an abiding love that most people—and shifters—only dream of.

Excerpt:

Jack Tucker watched his brother retrieve the rifle from the gun cabinet in the office. “Um. Rhett? What’re you doing?”

Rhett didn’t even glance back at him as he loaded the gun. “What does it look like I’m doing? You been living in the city so long you forgot how a Wyoming rancher lives?” Then he did look over his shoulder at Jack, and Jack kind of wished he hadn’t. He hated seeing that judgment in his brother’s eyes, and knowing he’d never be good enough for Rhett, never be the man his brother was.

“No,” Jack mumbled, “I didn’t forget.”

Rhett sighed and turned until he faced Jack. “Look, that was uncalled for. I’m… I’m sorry, okay?”

Jack was so startled by the apology that he gulped and couldn’t think of a word to say.

Rhett grimaced. “Yeah. Well, okay. Gotta check on some tracks Eddie said he found leading from his property to ours. I’ll be back in a few hours.” He left, striding from the room without seeming to hesitate.

Jack groaned and closed his eyes. Of course Rhett didn’t hesitate—he never had. Rhett always knew what to do, and how to do it, and who he was, and that he was right… Except, he apologized to me, and it screwed my head right up. “Worse than it already is,” he muttered.

Jack couldn’t stop himself from touching his left side, where his bruised ribs throbbed as the pain meds wore off. He was lucky, very lucky, that Rhett hadn’t pushed him on the accident that had sent Jack running home from New York, and possibly into the unemployment line. His boss hadn’t been happy with Jack taking off, even with a medical note as an excuse.

Jack hadn’t told Rhett much about any of that. As far as Rhett knew, Jack had fallen down some icy steps, and that was all he was going to ever know about the incident. Jack replayed his brother’s apology in his head and somehow it mingled in with Alex’s. Cold fear trickled down Jack’s spine and his gut cramped hard enough to make him worry about the dinner he’d just eaten.

After several minutes of trying to calm himself down, Jack stood and left. He’d wanted to sit and talk with Rhett about finances and try to decide if he should offer to let Rhett buy him out. Jack wasn’t made to be a rancher. He wasn’t made to be a New Yorker, either. Jack didn’t know what he was supposed to do in life, and at the age of twenty-seven, he kind of thought he should have an inkling.

His cell phone was ringing when he stepped into his bedroom. Without looking, he knew it was Alex calling. “Who else would it be?” he huffed. It wasn’t like he had any friends left. Rather than check to see how many times Alex had called and how many texts he’d sent, Jack turned the phone off, then stuck it in the nightstand. He eased himself onto the bed, then took a couple of prescription pain meds and washed them down with the rest of the water he’d brought in earlier.

The glass was old and familiar, and he felt a pang of regret as he looked it over after he set it down. Green glass, nothing special about it, yet he remembered so much as he stared. He could see his mom in the kitchen, fixing a pitcher of tea, talking to him, and listening as he told her about his day at school or the chores he’d had to do around the ranch. She’d always been so kind and understanding, Jack had to believe she’d have been okay with him being gay. He’d spent many afternoons in the kitchen, helping her prepare meals or just basking in her presence. Losing her had almost broken him.
For a few more minutes, he let his mind go back to happy childhood days. His dad wasn’t in nearly as many of those good memories, but Chauncey Tucker hadn’t been a bad man. His dad had been more like Rhett—stoic, focused on the ranch and less on the people around him. Jack ran one finger around the rim of the glass. He was surprised, really, that there were any of the old things left.

The sound of gunshot startled him so badly he jerked and nearly sent the glass flying. “Shit!” He winced as he pushed it back, then stood as quickly as he could manage. Another shot rang out, then a third, and fear quickly overtook every other sensation he’d felt until then.

Rhett had always been an ace shot. If he’d had to use three bullets, then there was something bad outside—a bear or a whole pack of wolves. Jack didn’t like guns, but he went and got one from the gun cabinet anyway. He loaded it as he walked to the front door, and hoped like hell Rhett wasn’t hurt.

As soon as he stepped outside, the fine hairs at his nape seemed to stand up and vibrate, like some kind of primitive survival instinct warning alert system. Jack froze, his back to the door as his heart slammed hard against his ribs. Another shot sounded, and it jolted Jack into action. “Rhett! Rhett!” He rushed down the steps and toward the direction the shots had come from. “Rhett! Are you okay?”

When Rhett didn’t immediately answer, Jack ran, careless with the gun, aware of that but unable to make himself do anything other than find his brother as soon as possible. “Rhett!”

He stumbled over something on the ground and almost fell before he managed to flail enough to keep himself upright. Pain tore down his injured side, but he ignored it as he called out for his brother yet again. He cursed himself for not thinking to grab a flashlight. The sky was overcast and there was no moonlight to assist him in his search, and once he was past the barns there was no light coming from the house or other structures, either.

Jack realized that the cattle in the closest field were making enough noise to drown out his voice or Rhett’s, making it impossible for them to hear each other. The sounds of the gunshots must have scared the cattle. Jack worried about a stampede, but he’d never seen any of the critters take out a fence, so he dismissed the idea.

“Rhett!” His throat burned as he hollered again. Lightning streaked across the sky, blinding Jack for a moment, then thunder followed and he couldn’t contain his startled yelp as his ears rang from the sound. Or his shriek when six pairs of glowing yellow eyes appeared between him and the fence line. “Shit!” Jack skidded to a halt and hoped he could steady his hands, and force himself to do what he had to do.

Meet the author: A few things about me… I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me. And it’s really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I’ll just let y’all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there’s something specific you’d like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio.

Interview:

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Bailey author of Wild Ones book 1: Destined Prey.
Hi Bailey, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Tell us your writing goals for this year.

My writing goals are to keep on schedule and not miss any deadlines! I have a very tight schedule, which is the way I prefer it. Too much time off or between projects, and I get twitchy. Bored. Restless. I can’t handle it.

I want to meet my deadlines and fit in additional books, either short stories or novels. I don’t have specific plans, but I want those extras to be my relaxation-writing—no deadlines, nothing like that, just stories I write for the fun of it, then I can publish them somewhere. I love writing, and unscheduled writing is a way for me to unwind.

Hopefully I will put out two new Coyote’s Call books, two new Valen’s Pack, the additional two books in the Wild Ones series, another Mossy Glenn book, two books in the new series Inferno, and two in the new City Shifters series, as well as a sequel to Something Shattered. Goals. I have lots.

Indigo Road by R J Jones

Two best friends take a year off to find themselves… and end up finding each other.

Joshua Simpson has just finished four years at Purdue University, but that’s not why he’s buzzing with excitement. Once they’ve said goodbye to their families, Josh and his best friend Alex are taking off to discover America in an old but reliable VW van, planning on not seeing snow for an entire year. Josh has always considered himself straight—except for that one time in college—so when he and Alex are living in such close proximity on the road, he’s unsure what these new feelings mean. Is it because they’re spending 24/7 together, or is it something deeper? And does it really matter since Josh has only ever seen Alex with women?

While in Oregon, Josh meets Johnno, a sexy but confusing Aussie surfer. While having an impromptu surfing lesson, Johnno helps Josh realize who he is and what he wants—but Alex’s reaction leaves Josh confused.

From a Montana ranch to the bright lights and dangerous streets of Los Angeles to a dark and lonely deserted highway in Alabama, join Josh and Alex as they drive around the US, discovering not only who they are, but who they can be together.

Excerpt

I was dozing in the back of Maude, my legs dangling over the rear bumper, my stomach full of croissant and coffee when Alex’s voice woke me. “Get up, I want to show you what Dad and I did over the last couple of days.”

I moaned, wanting to sleep a bit longer.

“C’mon, move your ass,” Alex ordered, slapping my thigh. After Alex had spoken to his folks, his enthusiastic mood had returned and I was glad his parents were okay with him leaving early. A little disappointed that they missed their goodbye maybe, but they reassured him they understood and wished him safe travels.

Placing my feet on the grassy ground, I stood and yawned, stretching my arms up high over my head. Alex’s eyes followed the lift of my T-shirt that exposed a line of my skin, and his lips parted, letting out a small breath.

Was he checking me out? No, I shook my head at the absurdity of the thought

About the author

R.J. Jones started as a reader and eventually made the progression to reviewing. It wasn’t until two men popped into her thoughts, insisting on telling her their story that she started to write.

It started with one scene. A hot and dirty one in the shower… R.J.’s initial thought was if she could write their scene then they’d shut up and allow her to concentrate on other aspects of her day. Not so. That shower scene ended up being 3000 words long and three hours of work. And still, they didn’t shut up. They told her their entire story and she didn’t sleep for days. Sometimes she couldn’t keep up with what they were telling her and she had to keep a notebook by her bed.

Whilst she was writing their story a side character decided he needed his story told too. Then other characters followed suit. You see the problem? If she ever wants to sleep again then she needs to write.

R.J. is a wife and a mother to two boys. She is surrounded by males. Even her dog is a boy.

Broken Prince And Mismatch Eyes by Layla Dorine

All of his life, Caden DeMott’s mismatched eyes have made him the target of superstition and scorn. Though he is the son of a nobleman, he’s been allowed to run free over the hills and moors, mostly ignored by his family. No one ever thought to inform him that he had been betrothed since infancy, until the day his fiancé, Prince Rhys Gwyther arrived to marry him.

Rhys is the prince of the small island country of Mauritania, a land rich in gems, rose oil, and pearls, but poor in skilled artisans and seeds to grow crops. In order to further cement the trade route to the mainland, he’s been sent to marry a man he’s never met, and bring him back to Mauritania.

Unfortunately, an accident years before has left Rhys with a lot of emotional baggage and very little trust in strangers.

But trust is exactly what Caden and Rhys are going to need if they are to make a life together, and help unravel the mystery of who’s been smuggling valuable gems and pearls off the island. Add in the realization that Caden’s stepmother, Mildred and her island representative, Maxwell, have been importing inferior goods for years, forcing Mauritania to become more dependent on them, and trust becomes even more difficult.

Caden possesses the knowledge to finally allow Rhys’ father to unravel the plot to ruin Mauritania, but only if the king and his son are willing to put their faith in Caden’s loyalty to his new home. Something that is difficult to do after Caden is accused of cheating on his marriage vows to Rhys with his guard, Luc. Will Rhys believe him innocent? Or will their marriage be over before it truly has a chance to begin?

Caden’s jaw dropped as he crossed the chamber to stand in front of his husband. “He’s the one who grabbed my wrist and yanked me against him. I was on my way out of the chamber before he did that. Luc was right there, he can tell you,” Caden said indignantly. “And I am growing tired of you accusing me of things.”

Rhys’ eyes widened, and Caden wondered if he hadn’t noticed Luc in the chamber.

“Maxwell was waiting in the study when Luc and I returned from our ride,” Caden explained further.
“He said Mildred wanted him to watch out for me, and he offered to show me around and explain the differences in the customs of Mauritania to the ones back home. Like I have a clue how society is expected to behave at home because I was never really invited to be a part of it unless Mildred had a need to show me off.” He sighed. “Regardless, I told him no, that you were keeping an eye on me and would show me around and teach me everything I needed to know. Luc grabbed his wrist and gave him a stern warning about laying hands on me and escorted him out of the manor.”

Rhys scrubbed a hand over his rapidly reddening face.

Caden, however, slowly began to smile as something dawned on him. He wasn’t sure he was right, but he fully intended to use the opportunity to ask. “Were you jealous?”

“You’re damn right I was,” Rhys snapped, his head jerking up to meet Caden’s eyes. “You’re my husband, and no one else has the right to touch you.”

Caden looked deep into Rhys’ eyes. He could see the anger there, but beneath it, he realized for the
first time that he could see the hurt, too. He took a step forward, putting himself in touching range.

“But you can touch me,” he said, his voice low as he reached out a hand to trace down Rhys’ arm.

“And I can touch you.”

Interview

I was so excited to be able to evesdrop on a chat between Layla and her boys, so I can't wait to share them with you

Layla: Hello guys, are you ready for this?

Rhys: I suppose we have little choice in the matter.

Layla: Nope, sorry, you don’t.

Caden: I’m ready. What do we have to hide?

They share a quick glance between them before Caden slides an arm around his husband and pulls him close.

Rhys: (grumbling) Fine.

Caden’s smile is bright, illuminating his mismatched eyes, bringing out the green in the brightest one, and even Rhys can’t keep from smiling then, and relaxing just a little.

Layla: So here’s an easy one for you guys to start out. What was your first thought when you were told you were about to be married?

Rhys: I think that ones more a question for Caden. I grew up knowing that I would marry Mildred and Maxwell’s first born.

Layla: Did it matter to you any when you found out they’d had a son?”

Shaking his head, Rhys stroked his fingertips down Caden’s arm, making him shiver a little.

Rhys: On Mauritania, it’s as common to see two women or two males married as it is to see a mixed couple. The only reservations I ever had about marrying Caden was the fear that he’d take one look at my limp and see that I could no longer keep up, physically, and think I was not a worthy husband for him. Before the accident, I was excited for the day to come when the wedding would take place.

Layla: In light of the way some of your own people treated you afterwards, I can understand your apprehension.

Caden: As could I, once he was finally honest with me.

Layla: And you Caden, how did you feel when you heard that you were not getting a choice in who you married and that the person was already on their way to marry you.

Caden: Uncertain. I didn’t know what to feel, or what to think. I trusted my father, and I’d always obeyed him, so there was never a question of not marrying Rhys. I just hoped that my hounds would be allowed to come with me, and that he wouldn’t see my eyes and hate me for them.

Layla: So before you laid eyes on Rhys, how much had you been told about him?

Caden: Only what my father told me that day. That he was the prince of Mauritania and that I was to marry him. I don’t think my father bothered to learn anything about him and if Mildred did, she never bothered to pass anything along. I grew up ignorant of his existence, and the contract.

Layla: That had to be difficult. What was your first impression of Rhys when you met him?

Caden: That he looked handsome…and angry.

Rhys chuckled.

Rhys: Unfortunately, I misplaced all of that anger by dumping it on you.

Caden: But we got past it, and learned a lot about one another in the process.

Layla: Were you relieved to go to Mauritania and get away from Mildred?

Caden: Very much so. The one thing I held on to on the entire journey was that it couldn’t be worse than living with her. That nothing that was said to me there about my eyes or my wild ways would be worse than the things she’s already said. Meeting Anwen and Kendrick and being so welcomed by then was a gift I’ll always cherish.

Layla: And what was your first impression of Mauritania?

Caden: That is was beautiful, and even wilder than my father’s lands. My first thought upon seeing the cliffs was that I couldn’t wait to take Brutus and Titus out to explore them.

Layla: And have you gotten that opportunity yet?

Caden: Not fully. I’ve been in them to hunt the mountain cats, but that’s all we’ve had time for so far.

Rhys: Soon, we’ll make time and go; when the weather is better. The mountains are snow covered right now, not the best for exploring and sleeping out of doors in.

Caden nodded.

Caden: I look forward to it, but then, I look forward to any time I get to spend with you.

Layla: So Rhys, what has been your favorite moment with Caden so far? I know a lot has happened since his arrival and you’ve both been working hard, but there have been moments, haven’t there, when you’ve been able to get away.

Rhys: When Caden returned from helping my father escort Maxwell back to the mainland, we were able to get away to the hunting cabin in the north. Being able to spend the afternoons in the hot springs or trapping together and cooking our catch over the fire pits outside was a wonderful treat after everything we’d been through.

Caden: One night, we sat outside until almost dawn and watched the lights in the sky change colors from red to green, and even violet. There were streaks of light slashing through the heavens; it was one of the most wondrous things I’d ever seen.

Layla: I bet that was pretty fantastic. I don’t want to keep you guys much longer, I’m sure you have many more memories you’re just anxious to make, but before you go, I have to ask: what is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about one another so far?

Rhys: Caden is both kind and patient with children. I noticed him one day with one of the little girls who helps out in the kitchen. She’d been sent to the hen house to get eggs and he’d found her crying because the hens had pecked her and she’d broken the only two eggs she’d managed to gather. He took her back in the house and showed her how to sooth them so she could gather the eggs unscathed. I’ve seen him with other young people too, explaining different techniques and even teaching one youth how to ride.

Caden: Had so many others not done the same for me, I would know very little. It’s easy to take the time to pass some of that knowledge along. The thing that surprised me the most to learn about Rhys was that he is as talented a storyteller and bard as Anwen. There were many nights up at the hunting lodge that he entertained us all with tales and songs. He has the most soothing voice.

Layla: Now that is something I hope he will share in upcoming books. Thank you both for co-operating today, I’m sure our wonderful readers appreciate it too, and look forward to seeing more of you both in the second part of the Mauritanian Saga.

Rhys: We wouldn’t be opposed to returning.

Caden: No, in fact I think we’d look forward to it.

Cheryl was born into a poor mining family in the South Wales Valleys. Until she was 16, the toilet was at the bottom of the garden and the bath hung on the wall. Her refrigerator was a stone slab in the pantry and there was a black lead fireplace in the kitchen. They look lovely in a museum but aren’t so much fun to clean.

Cheryl has always been a storyteller. As a child, she’d make up stories for her nieces, nephews and cousin and they’d explore the imaginary worlds she created, in play.

Later in life, Cheryl became the storyteller for a re enactment group who travelled widely, giving a taste of life in the Iron Age. As well as having an opportunity to run around hitting people with a sword, she had an opportunity to tell stories of all kinds, sometimes of her own making, to all kinds of people. The criticism was sometimes harsh, especially from the children, but the reward enormous.

It was here she began to appreciate the power of stories and the primal need to hear them. In ancient times, the wandering bard was the only source of news, and the storyteller the heart of the village, keeping the lore and the magic alive. Although much of the magic has been lost, the stories still provide a link to the part of us that still wants to believe that it’s still there, somewhere.

In present times, Cheryl lives in a terraced house in the valleys with her son and menagerie of three cats, a dog and a dragon. Her daughter has deserted her for the big city, but they’re still close.

Immersed, as always, in the world of fantasy, she maintains a burning desire to share the stories and these days it’s in the form of books which all contain her spark and unique view on life, the universe and everything

Cover Artist: Kris Noriss

Blurb:

Marley is alive, and back with Toby and the rest of Zirkua Fantastic. But King Jester, the spirit of discord, still roams free, and his most fearsome creations, the Princes, have been loosed from their prisons. Now, human and immortal alike are disappearing, no sign of a body or a struggle to be found. More and more of them each day.

Now, it’s the duty of the last remnants of resistance to stand strong against the impossible, battle back the chaos before it ravages Earth. And all the while, a single question remains unanswered: can life ever return to normal after this?

Excerpt:

Toby wrapped an arm around Marley, felt the hard muscles of his arms. "You're wonderful."
"Well, I try."
They wandered through the camp. Once, it had been a circus, the greatest circus in all the world: Zirkua Fantastic. But it died when King Jester escaped. Now, only haunted remnants remained. Hawkers' corridor, once lively with trade, stood as dusty, weather-beaten booths, the machines and stock left abandoned. The tent frame stood, its fabric long burned away.
And there was the graveyard. It started with Darius, killed in King Jester's escape. But it grew. It grew too much, too fast. After they rescued Marley, they buried what was left of the victims, of the old performers.
Toby turned his eyes away from the graves, back to the skeleton of the tent. Those humans who chose to stay, after everything, spent most of their time here. Toby shook his head. Again, was this really safety? Could they really be safe, even with the protections. Those who stayed behind stayed to fight.
When Toby looked at them, he didn't see them alive. Just dead. Killed by Coyote or killed by King Jester or, done away with. Whatever happened down in the town. And he wasn't the one who could keep them safe. Not against King Jester or his army of half-breeds.
