The Faery of Beacon Lake Part 10

Life has been a struggle lately, but the very bright side of the coin is that my long, long writing draught seems to be over and I'm writing again, albeit more slowly than usual. Hopefully, this will continue to grow and expand and I can finally get back to working on all the WIP's that are hanging around waiting for attention. In the meantime, enjoy the next instalment of "Beacon Lake"

“You are the human who presumes to claim my son.” The king’s voice was like waves crashing against rocks in a storm. Although white-haired, he didn’t look old, neither did the queen, certainly not old enough to have a son Bran’s age. A brief flutter of unease had him wondering how old Bran was. They fey lived long lives.
“I… um….” He stuttered when he realized he was expected to speak.
“Speak up, boy.” The king turned to Bran. “Are you sure? This one seems defective.”
“Hush dear.” The queen’s voice was more like a bubbling spring brook and she smiled gently at Owen. “You’re frightening him. I told you all this” – she waved her hand to encompass the warriors and maidens – “was too much.”
“Nonsense. I will not give my son to a wishy washy human boy. I will have a warrior. I will have a leader among men.”
“You will have no one, dear. This is about Bran, not you.”
“But I am his father and I have the right—”
“You have the right to many things, but as we agreed, you do not have the right to your son’s happiness. Bran has chosen, not you.”
The king growled and glared at Owen who had the impression this wasn’t the first time the conversation had taken place in much the same form. It was, however, the first time the king had Owen to pass the buck to.
“How do I know you will care for my son? How do I know you have honour?”
Owen opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He swallowed.
“You see?” the king thundered. “He has no answer. He—”
“He’s still a frightened child, and you’re not helping.” She turned to Owen. “How did you know about the bread, dear? Do have a connection with the fey? A forest spirit, perhaps? You have the feel of the deep woods about you.”
“I…no. It was my grandmother who told me about the bread. I think…I think she knew because of…of stories.” He finished lamely because, to be honest, he had no idea where his grandmother got her information.
“Ah, stories. Stories are powerful things. Not many humans are still aware of this. Your grandmother is wise.”
Turning to Bran, the queen held out her hand. Bran stared at it for a moment, an expression of shock on his face, then took it and stepped forward. A shudder ran through him when he set foot on the shore, and his outline seemed to ripple for a moment as if he’d walked through a heat haze.
“Do you wish to give yourself to this human?”
“I do, Mother.”
“Do you understand that for as long as the bargain holds you must remain on land and the moment the bargain is broken you must return to the water and never set foot on land again?”
“I do, Mother.”
With two fingers under his chin, she tilted his face upward. “Do you love him?” she murmured.
“I do, Mother.”
“But….” Owen paused. It somehow felt wrong to interrupt what seemed like a very private moment, but he seemed to be heading very quickly into something he wasn’t sure he wanted and had no idea how to get out of. “What bargain?” He hated how pathetic he sounded, but he was lost and out of control.
“I’m coming to that, dear.”
“I do not think this human boy is worthy. He has no courage, and no commitment. He seeks to wriggle out of the bargain before it is made.”
“I know what you, think, my love. You have told me many times. The bargain.” Her voice changed on the last two words as she drew herself up and snapped her fingers. One of the handmaidens, while careful to keep her toes in the water, handed the queen a scroll, bound with a silver thread. The queen carefully unrolled it and raised her eyes to Owen.
“Human boy, do you promise to care for our son, Bran, Prince of the Mountain Lakes and Guardian of the Gateway? Do you promise to honour him and never to raise a hand against him in violence?”
“I….”
“See? He cannot even promise this.”
“Be quiet, dear. Give the boy some time. Our ways are not his ways.”
“The thing is…. The thing is, I didn’t expect…. I didn’t expect to marry him.”
The queen’s smile didn’t slip an iota. “I understand that things are different in your world, but you must understand what you are asking of our son? If he comes to you he will be alone in a world that is not kind to us. For as long as the bargain holds he will never be able to return home and the only person he will have is you. I cannot allow my son to take such an enormous step unless I am sure you will take care of him and treat him well.”
“Of course I would. I’d never hurt him.”
The queen smiled sadly. “Such things always begin with good intentions. The bargain is clear. The choice is yours. Seek within your heart. Will you take my son’s life into your keeping, or will you hand it back to me and never see him again?”
Owen’s heart stuttered. He was torn. Part of him was angry that he was being forced into making a life changing decision when he wasn’t ready. Then he glanced at Bran.
Bran was standing quietly, with his hands at his sides and an impassive expression on his face. His head was slightly bowed, but his eyes never left Owen and when Owen caught his gaze he gave a faint, hesitant smile. That’s what undid him. If Bran had been his usual brash self he might have thought longer, might even have walked away. But that smile was so small and hopeful, and Bran’s eyes so bright Owen could no more imagine walking away from him than tearing his heart from his chest and throwing it at his feet. Although, perhaps that’s exactly what he was about to do.

And now go check out the rest of the flashers this week. There are some amazing stories going on

Wednesday Briefs. The Faery of Beacon Lake Part 9

This week I have a prompt to play with that fit in perfectly with this week's installment, and for balance I found a picture of a male faery also

At the stroke of midnight, Owen was pacing the banks of the lake. He checked his watch for the hundredth time to find time crawling so slowly it might have been going backwards. The light of the phone was harsh in darkness lit only by an occasional glimmer of a pale moon, as it dodged between clouds. He’d almost broken his neck a half-dozen times on the path over the mountain. He’d almost turned back a dozen more, but here he was, phone in hand, watching the numbers march onward to his doom.
He was so intent on the bright screen that he almost missed the change in the quality of the light around him. Glancing up, he was surprised to find that the entire lake was filled with a faint blue light. Even the mist on the surface was blue. Somewhere, far away, bells were tinkling and right on the edge of hearing someone was singing.
The sound of singing grew louder as the light in the water brightened. Owen took a step backward as something like a flock of birds burst out of the water and rose into the air making strange chirruping sounds. They circled overhead, dipping and swirling, silvery in the light of the moon that had now cleared the clouds and glittered in a clear sky. Squinting his eyes, Owen gasped as he realized the swirling shapes weren’t birds at all, but tiny people, clothed in blue and emitting a slight blue glow, a pale shadow of the light from the lake.
As the singing came closer yet, Owen saw figures moving in the water, swimming up toward the surface. He swallowed hard when a group of young men, naked to the waist, with long hair and shimmering wings broke the surface and fanned out on either side of Owen, their feet up to the ankles in the water. Owen swallowed even harder when he noticed the long, bright swords each bore at their hip. Each man wore a silver torc and a twisted band around their upper arms. They stood erect and proud, facing toward the water.
Next came a group of female fairies, dressed in flowing robes encrusted with crystals that looked like water droplets, and masses of flowers woven into their hair and held in sprays in their hands. They, too fanned out along the edge of the lake in front of the men, their feet and lower legs still in the water.
The third group to emerge were clearly the most important. As they neared the surface, the maidens strew flour petals on the water. Unlike the others they did not simply emerge as a human might, walking on the bed of the lake, they rose out of the water to stand on its surface, and moved slowly toward the bank.
The group was led by a tall man, dressed in a similar manner to the rest of the male fairies, except that he wore a tall silver crown that glittered with crystals. There was no doubt that this was the king. Walking beside him was a woman, just at tall and just as regal, wearing a trailing robe of blue and white. Her crown might not be as tall as the king’s but judging by hear bearing she was in no way subservient.
Behind the royal couple were about five or six faeries, both male and female. Owen couldn’t see Bran, but he might well have been one of them. It was from them the song came, although Owen could still not clearly distinguish the words. It came to him all at once that they were not singing in English or any language he had heard before. Although there were words they were fluid and silvery, more like flutes and bells than voices.
Unlike those who had come before, the king and queen stepped out of the water and glided toward him. Although their feet were bare they walked over the sharp stones as if on a red carpet. Owen fought the urge to turn and run as the royal court drew closer.
The king and queen stopped little more than arm’s length away and the singing stopped abruptly. In the silence that followed every sound was magnified at both king and queen gazed intently at Owen. He squirmed under the scrutiny, unsure of what was expected of him. He did his best to stand tall and meet the fey gazes, but it was hard. If it hadn’t been for Aggie’s advice to make like a statue and act like an equal he would have curled in a ball or run.
“They see weakness as clearly as you see colour,” Aggie had said. “They will be looking for it. You can’t hide your fear but you can show you are fighting it. They won’t expect you to be fearless but they will respect your courage.”
At that moment, Owen didn’t feel very courageous. He had no idea what to do or say, or what was coming. That was the worst. The tension amped by the moment until Owen wanted to scream, “just get on with it would you?”
As he was about to reach breaking point, the king and queen stepped aside and Bran stepped forward from behind them.

Unlike the other men, he was not bear chested but wearing a loose tunic over trousers. They fabric was pearlescent white, girdled with a silver belt patterned with leaf designs. The same designs decorate a silver band the circled his head, holding back his hair. His face was decorated with delicate silver designs of seemingly random swirls and spirals, sweeping up to his eyes, which were ringed by silver and black eyeliner. He was stunning and Owen forgot how to breathe.

Wednesday Briefs Demon Chapter Fifteen

Here comes another Wednesday. It's cold and fine and I have a day of writing stuff ahead. I should be feeling on top of the world, but I have to admit to being somewhat demorlized at the moment. When book sales are in single figures it's hard to feel like a writer, and hard to feel positive about the future.

Anyway.... The prompt I chose was "I am yours to command, my Lord"

Too many things are happening too fast. My mind struggles to comprehend. Can it be only hours ago I trotted at Jandra’s heels to see a monster? Instead I found an angel. Swept up in the heady wonder of our bonding, I have not had time to stop and think what this actually means for me. How could I have thought that Tian would simply slot into my life with no change? Truthfully. I hadn’t thought at all. I was truly swept off my feet.

Now, with father summoning the ministers and an engagement to be pronounced my whole life is turning on its head, and I feel out of control.

I need to stop for a moment, and just be, just hold him and feel his arms around me. I know it’s foolish but my heart hurts that he is to announce his official engagement to Jandra and not me. She will walk out with him on her arm. Perhaps they will kiss – of course they will; it will be expected of them. I will have to watch. I will have to walk behind them and smile while my sister rests her head on my lover’s shoulder.

I’m so angry with myself. I know I’m mean–minded and selfish but I can’t help it. Now I’ve found Tian, I want him to myself. And it isn’t just selfishness, truly it isn’t, it’s anger too; anger and embarrassment that my people are so closed minded they cannot accept our love and have to be lied to in the first place.

Tian kisses my hair and the tension flows from my body, leaving me to melt against him. The last of my frustration drifts from me in a sigh.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper. “I’m such a selfish child. I know the way it works. I should never have imagined it would work out the way I want it, just because I want it.”

“It will, my love,” Tian whispers in return. “All it needs is time. Your people will grow, and soon you will come to my home and be welcomed by all in your rightful place at my side.”

I tilt up my head to look at Tian. He is so proud, so beautiful. “Can we do that? Can we be true to ourselves when we are there? Would not word get back and spoil father’s plan?”
Tian smiles. “Do you see many of my people on the streets of your city? Do you think that will change anytime soon?”

“No, I suppose not. I’m sorry.”

Tian bends his beautiful head and kisses me and it doesn’t take long to forget what I was apologizing for.

“I would never ask of you something that hurts your heart. I could not bear to be responsible for that hurt, but I truly believe this is for the best. If your people take against me from the start we will have no chance of ever being openly together. Your father is right. If they are able to accept my relationship with your sister and engage with my people, then they will be more likely to accept us. I would not want to estrange you from your own people.”

“I don’t care. I would go anywhere, do anything to be with you. I love you. That’s all that matter, all I care about.”

“For now, perhaps, but you would regret it in the end.” Tian cups my chin and tilts up my face to gaze into my eyes. “I don’t want to pretend to court your sister. She does not command my heart, and never will. You do. You. I am yours to command, my Lord, and if you command me to walk into the heart of your land and announce my eternal love for you, I will.”

“They’d probably kill you.”

“I don’t care. If my life is what it takes to make you happy, I am happy to surrender it.”

“Truly? You would die for me?”

“In a heartbeat.”

Tian’s love flows like golden sunshine into my heart and nothing else matters.

“When things get hard for you,” Tian murmurs, his hands sliding down my sides, “look into my eyes, and you will see stars. Those are for you. Only for you. The heat of my love will burn as hot and bright as any star that hangs in the night sky. I love you, my prince. Only you. Always.”

“I love you too,” I breathe and sway against him. Tian’s hands cup my buttocks and pulls me closer still, as his lips and tongue take possession of my mouth. I feel his hardness through our clothes and moan as my body tightens in response. Tian rolls his hips and my mind unravels as I cling to him and whimper, grinding against him, wanting more, more, more.

Tian pulls away and leaves me gasping. “I think perhaps we should wait,” he says. His voice is calm, but his face is flushed, his eyes over bright.

“Or...we could slip away to my chambers and––”

Tian laughs his wonderful, warm, rich laugh and kisses me lightly. “I think your father might not be best pleased were he to announce your engagement to you sister and seek to introduce me to his advisors, only to find I have run off with you. That would ruin what we are trying to achieve.”

I can’t help but see his point, but neither can I help the keen disappointment that threatens to overwhelm me. With a sigh I let him go and turn away.

“Do not turn from me, I beg you.”

“If I don’t then my father’s advisors will see something that could far more easily ruin what we are trying to achieve.”

Tian chuckles, and his hands fall warm and heavy on my shoulders.

Now go check out all the other flashers, who are all real writers I assure you

Wednesday Briefs. Demon Chapter Fourteen

It's Wednesday again and here is the latest installment of Demon. Castien is getting the wrong end of the stick and Tian is being all mature and diplomatic. Baby steps guys

Most of the prompts this week were out because they didn't fit with the world my guys live in, but I figured anyone can go for wine, so I took this prompt

Silence falls as everyone turns to the warrior princess. Her face is set and she appears unhappy but resolute. I have more than half an inkling of what she is about to say. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I see the merit.

“Father,” she says in a voice that is far more certain than her eyes betray. “Let it be known the demon is here to pay suit to me. Make an announcement to the people that he is an envoy of peace and has made an offer for my hand which I have accepted.”

For a moment, the room is silent, then it erupts into noise, voices speaking all at once, their words overlaid and each of a different flavour.

The king is in favour of the suggestion, already playing over the ramifications and possibilities. He is skilled in the art of politics and, I am sure, sees the same opportunities as I. He yells for a boy to fetch wine and summon his Council.

The queen is concerned only for her children, and voices doubts of a personal nature, while my prince is distraught at the suggestion he might lose me to his sister. His mind is not clear, clouded by the strength of our bond. I appreciate that. It clouds my mind also, but I am highly trained in diplomacy and I am able to see the benefits of the arrangement without allowing personal feelings to intervene.

“I believe there is merit in the proposition.”

Again the room falls silent for a moment. All eyes turn to me and it Is fortunate I am trained for this as each gaze holds its own intensity.

“No.” My prince appears distraught, his eyes wide and bright. For a moment I am lost in them. “You can’t do that. You can’t marry my sister. You can’t. You said you love me. Didn’t you mean it? Is that all I am to you? A political advantage?”

My heart breaks at the anguish in my prince’s voice. It hurts more to know I caused it.

“No one said I was going marry him,” the princess says, spitting out he words as if they were acid on her tongue. “This is for appearances only. Once peace is secured we can announce that the arrangement has been amended. Once there is dialogue between our people ours will be less likely to rebel against your relationship. The Goddess knows why, but the people love Castien and they will accept the situation far more easily than the Council will, once their fear of the demons has been lessened.”

The hope in my prince’s eyes hurts more than the pain. That I have caused such anguish! This is unfair. I should have been give opportunity to speak to my love before I had to speak.

“I love you, and only you, my bonded. From a political perspective an union with your sister is preferable and there is no harm in giving the illusion that this is so. That does not mean I will give up my heart, or any part of it, to her. Neither will I give her my body, which is only for you.”

A delicate pink dusts the pale cheeks of my love. When I take him to my home and we walk beneath the trees, and around the banks of the lake, the sun will put colour there that will not diminish when his embarrassment fades. He is too pale, too timid. That I can remedy.

“I’m sorry,” Castien whispers. “I doubted you. That was wrong.”

“It was natural. Our bond is strong but we still know very little of each other. I would be a fool to expect absolute trust. This will grow as we come to know ourselves and each other.”

Again the pink blush highlights my love’s beauty and my heart warms at the love that shines in his eyes. I ache to touch him, to hold him, to soothe his strained nerves, but that will have to wait. As always with those in our position, the affairs of state must take precedence to affairs of the heart.

The king is already running through the possibilities, working out plans and details. He calls his advisors and I know that very soon I will be thrust into the centre of a diplomatic storm. I appreciate the king is a man of action, that his thoughts become deeds with decision and precision, but he fails to realize how his son suffers when swept up with a course he struggles to understand and is not made to feel an important part of.

“I require time to speak with my bonded.”

At first my request is ignored, as the king in absorbed in his plans. When I repeat louder he stops and gazes at me, surprise in his expression and annoyance in his posture.

“There is no time. The Council will be here very soon and we need to discuss how best to approach the subject.”

“The Council are your problem. You can discuss the proposal without my presence. It would be better, perhaps if you build up to an introduction in any event. I require time to discuss matters with
my beloved before matters proceed, or they will not proceed at all.”

The king glares at me. I meet his gaze projecting a calm I do not feel. It is the queen, however, who steps in and grants my request. We are ushered into an anti room and the door closes on their discussions.

In the silence of the room, my nerve fails me. I let my face fall to my hands and rub my tired eyes. I have swung from emotion to emotion and I am exhausted. I seek a chair in which to collapse, but before I can do so, my beloved’s arms are around me, hugging tight.

“Just hold me,” he says raggedly. “Please, just hold me."

Next week the boys share some love, and they're going to need it to hold on to.

Now go visit the rest of the flashers and find some good quality shorts.

Demon, Chapter Eleven.

We find ourselves at another Wednesday and having survived the first half of the Summer Holidays. Actually, I'm having a blast. With a fourteen year old who is passionate about similar things to me, outings and activities are no trial at all. Also gaming until four in the morning and getting up at midday is very much my natural rhythm. Gaming until four and up at six for school most definitely isn;t.

This week, I chose this prompt

and this one

To be totally honest, neither of them is actually referred to in the flash. This was one of the situations where I chose a prompt then got involved in the writing to the extent the prompt didn't fit. As far as these prompts are concerned the photographs are of things that the characters would have seen. The bath is in the bathing room Castien was sick in - not in the bath, and the china is on a dresser in the Queen's chambers.

I’ve rarely seen father so angry, or heard him laugh so loud. What’s going on? I’m so confused. I hear Jandra and Tian speaking in the other room but my whole attention is on stopping myself from shaking apart.

I will never give up my bonded, and if my father demands it I will have to choice but to stand against him. That is something I have never dared to do and I fear the first time will be the last time. In truth I don’t know why we still live. Is he playing with us? But my mother…. She would not be part of my death, and she knows me well enough to think I would let Tian face the executioner alone.

My heart swings wildly from hope to despair and I grip the edges of the sink, struggling to keep my composure. Once glance at the haunted face in the mirror and I lose it, along with every morsel that passed my lips this morning.

Cold shivers possess my body and all I can see is my lover pinned on the field, his face contorted with pain, his last breath leaving his lips, a prayer of love for me. I have been such a fool. I should have run. That very first moment, I should have taken his hand and run. Every moment we spent romping was another line added to his death warrant. Mine too. I care less about that. I can’t imagine a world without him. I’ve heard it said often that it’s better to die than to lose your love. I’ve never believed it. Now I do. I would rather die with him than live without him.

“My prince?”

I whirl at the voice from the doorway, gasp. I grip the basin again to stop myself falling. Will there be more shocks? If so, I doubt my heart could bear it.

He is wondrous. Are those my clothes? They have never looked so good on me, of that I’m certain. In the name of all the Gods he is beautiful. How did Jandra make his hair shine like that? It flows down his back in a river of pure silver, held back by tiny plaits that are twisted to make a crown around his brow.

My heart stammers and I press my hand to my chest. It is hard to breathe.

“You are so beautiful.”

Tian seems to float across the floor. He seems to tower over me, although he really isn’t that much taller.

“No, you are the beautiful one. I can barely stand to look at you as your brightness burns my eyes. But my love, you are so cold. You shiver. Are you ill?”

“No.” My voice is a whisper. I feel so pathetic, but I can’t manage anymore. Tears are drowning my voice with my courage. “I’m just afraid.”

“Don’t be afraid. I’ll take care of you. No one will hurt you when I’m with you.”

“I wish that were so. My father is a complex man, but he is…. He is a hard man, and uncompromising with his enemies. He will see us both on stakes. I don’t care. I’m sick of this life. Sick of trying to be something I’m not and apologizing for what I am. But you…. My flame is burning low, but yours is bright, so bright. I can’t bear the thought of it being extinguished.”
Tian’s arms surround me as I weep into his chest. “I’m so weak,” I choke out. “You’re so brave. I’m sorry I’m so weak and pathetic.”

“Your fear does not make you weak. Your love does not make you weak. Your deep emotions and empathy do not make you weak. You have lived with this for a long time. You have been broken and will not allow your father or anyone else to break you more. I will save you, my love.”

Jandra snorts. “Fine words but words won’t save you if you linger here too long. By the Gods, brother, you have not even washed your face. You are a mess. Demon, fetch a bowl of warm water and a cloth. You, come with me.”

Jandra takes my hand and drags me into my bedchamber. I am numb. I stare into the mirror as she cleanses me, brushes my hair and applies cosmetic to hide how I have ravaged my looks. I am still emotionless when she dresses me in my best and leads me by the hand through silent corridors, accompanied by my father’s personal guard, who had been left at the door. Was he fearful I would run?

“Wait here,” Jandra says when we arrive at my parents’ chambers. She slips inside, leaving us along in the corridor with the soldiers. It’s only then that I realize Tian’s hand is in mine. He squeezes it.

“No matter what might befall us, never forget you are my hero and my heart. I will defend you to the death and will perish before I allow anything bad to befall you. You are my prince, my bonded, my heart and my soul. In this life, or the next, we will be as one.”

“We already are,” I whisper, forcing back tears. I will not cry in front of my father’s men.

“Come. Quickly.”  Jandra’s sudden appearance startles me, and the sound it brings to my lips brings fire to my cheeks. I bite my lip so as not to un–man myself even more.

As soon as I enter the room my mother flies at me and crushes me against her chest.

“Oh, my darling, my poor Castien. We have been so cruel.” She draws back and gazes at me, then lays her hand against my cheek. “Ai Bren, see what you have done with your idiocy. You have made your own son so fearful of that he can barely keep his feet. You know our Castien is delicate.”

“He has no business being delicate where he has to go.”

***
And the delight doesn't end there. Now you can go read all the other wonderful stories.

Wednesday Briefs Demon Chapter Ten

Beck from a peaceful but internet free holiday and ready to roll. Starting with a new installment of Demon with an unexpected twist. I chose the prompt "Shut your mouth, before I make you" but there were some photos that kind of fitted and were pretty so here they are

“Father,” my prince gasps as he scrambles from the bed and prostrates himself in front of the man, who ignores him, to stare at me with glittering eyes. He looks as if he would like to snap me in two, but I will not bow before him. Nothing will make me kneel willingly to this man who suffers his own son to cower before him. Although I am sure I will suffer for it, I place myself between the man and my beloved.

“No,” Castien gasps. “Keep back. Please. Don’t intimidate him. Father, I beg you. Do not hurt my beloved. You don’t understand. We’re bonded, joined. If you hurt him, you’ll hurt me.”

“Be silent,” the king snaps and Castien cowers even more. The woman, his sister strides forward and drags him to his feet. My fingers itch to circle her throat, but there is some kindness in her actions and I’m not so foolish nor my blood so intoxicated by our union to forget our lives are in the hands of these people.

“But father, please, please listen to me. Please. He’s no demon. He––”

“Shut your mouth,” the king says coldly, “before I make you.”

Castien winces, and his sister draws him backwards, away from the anger of his father, which is almost a physical barrier between them. I hear Castien weeping softly, but I dare not turn my back on his father. It’s bad enough the woman is behind me, but I am free now. She will not take me again.

The men who wait quietly in the corridor outside the chamber are another matter. If the king and princess were alone I would be confident I could defeat them, but I cannot fight them all. I have a strong feeling Castien would not be an asset in a fight. His strengths lie elsewhere. Still, I will not go down without a fight. I would give my life for my prince and this might be the time.

Standing to my full height, which is a good inch shorter than the king, I meet his eyes and force myself not to flinch from his gaze. I will face my death like a man. As a true prince. If I die here my father will avenge me. Perhaps my prince will still be alive and may be liberated even then.

The king throws back his head, and I fear he is about to give the command to take us. I don’t know quite what I might have expected, but it is not this. I turn briefly to look at my prince but he is gazing wide–eyed at his father, who is laughing as heartily as any I have ever heard. What is this? A trick? Is he seeking to throw us off guard before he attacks?

“Clothe yourself,” he barks after a time. “Your nakedness offends me. The last thing I expected was to find my son rutting like a bitch in heat, although it is fitting, as he has always been nothing but a little bitch.” He roars again and I am blinded with anger on my lover’s part.

“What kind of father are you that you would speak of your own son this way, and in front of the guard too? He is no bitch. Would you have cared a little for him, looked beyond his frail exterior you would have found the heart of a lion.”

The king’s laughter ceased and the cold expression returns to his eyes.

“Be careful, demon spawn. You walk a narrow line. Never forget you are the enemy in our stronghold. I would rather not have you thrown in a dungeon, or laid out on the field, but if you push me hard enough, I will. Bring them to my chambers when they are decent,” he snaps at his daughter before he sweeps from the room. I notice he leaves guards outside the door, which the princess hurries to close.

“Quickly,” she says, “clothe yourselves. Castien find the…. Tian?” I nod, confused. “Find Tian clothes suitable for an audience with our parents.”

“Parents? M–mother?”

“I don’t know any more than you do. The world has gone crazy. Father and Mother didn’t seem at all surprised, although father was less pleased initially. I was sent from the room and heard raised voices before he burst out. I have to admit I believed he was angry and was preparing myself to fight for you.”

“F–fight for…for us?” My prince is shivering so much his teeth are chattering. His sister draws him close and envelops himself in an embrace that I feel should be mine. By force of will I hold back, recognizing this time is for them. Something passes between them that is uniquely familial, and the expression on her face when he drops his head on her shoulder and weeps is the softest I have ever seen on one such as her.

“Come now,” Jandra says. She steps back and takes his face between her hands. “Wash your face and clothe your body. I will see to Tian’s needs. You must keep your courage. Be steady, brother. I have your back. Go.”

With a look to me that breaks my heart, Castien hurries into the bathroom. There is silence for a moment, then I hear the water flow. In this room silence remains. Jandra avoids my eyes.

“You truly love my brother? Not for your own gain?”

“I truly do.”

She turns her face, eyes blazing. In that moment she strongly resembles her father. “I hope so, because if you hurt him I will have your head, but only after I have painted the ground with your blood and have you watch the birds feast on your steaming entrails.”

If she thought to shock me she thought wrong. I am not afraid of her. I smile. “If I hurt him I will hand you the knife.”

Her expression softens and at last she smiles.

Wednesday Briefs. Demon Chapter Nine

Wednesdays seem to come around so fast. They say that time speeds up as we get older, I think it's just that we have more behind us to compare with and I have a lot of Wednesdays behind me. Many of them are full of Wednesday Briefs, and I hope there will be many more

This week I used the prompt Hickory smoked horse buttholes Okay, I cheated a little and used it as an oath, but I still think it's a pretty good one. In honour of the horse in question I chose a picture too

Fear grips me so hard I can’t breathe. What is this? What is he doing to me? This can’t be normal. This intensity. This pleasure. This pain. If others had felt this I would know. No one could go through this and be unchanged.
Sensations unlike any I have ever felt before are building in me and I can’t contain them. I can’t cope any longer. I can’t take any more.
Tian withdraws and I can breathe again. He pauses, gazing down at me with so much love shining in his eyes. My body relaxes, and in fact I feel a little bereft that the feeling of fullness and completion have gone.
A shadow passes over Tian’s beautiful face and he frowns briefly. A flutter of fear increases my heartbeat and peaks when he says “Forgive me.”
Forgive what? Before I can ask he plunges into me and all thoughts disappear in the tearing, glorious pain.
I can’t breathe. I can’t move. A terrible pressure is building in me and I can’t stand it. Something is possessing me and I’m losing myself in it. Terrible fear washes over me and I struggle against it.
It’s alright. Relax. Breathe through it. I’m with you. Let go. I won’t let you fall.
I can’t. I can’t. I can’t stand it. Please make it stop.
Trust me. Let go.
It was hard, almost too hard, but I try. I try hard for him, and it does get better when I force myself to relax. Slowly, the pain morphs into pleasure but even the pleasure is so intense as to be almost unbearable.
No. No. No.
Tension is building and I’m helpless in its grip. I can’t bear it. I can’t. It’s too much and I’m afraid. Not even Tian’s soothing voice can make it okay
Take deep breaths.
I’m trying. And I am. I’m trying hard; really hard. Oh Heavens it’s amazing. The deep breathing is finally working and the waves of pleasure are less overwhelming. A knot of tension in my belly is pulsing, clenching around Tian’s penis as it thrusts rhythmically and deeply into my body. Ah. Ah, Gods. Shining Gods what are you doing to me?
“Ssh. Relax. You will come now. Do not fear, it will never be this intense again.”
Before I have time to think about what he said, my entire body contracts and convulses. The knot of tension releases and wave after wave of intense pleasure rip and ripple through me. I can’t catch my breath, but when I do I scream, and keep on screaming as convulsions batter at my brain and tear down walls I hadn’t known were there. My mind and spirit are shredded and claw at Tian, desperate to get him away from me, to get him out of me. He’s invading me. Every part of me, and I have no defences.
Breathe. Relax. Ride it. It will be over very soon. I’m so sorry.
It goes on forever. I have no control. My body shudders and pulses, slowly turning to mulch. I’ve lost control of everything and I truly think I’m dying.
Oh Heavenly Mother, no. I didn’t mean to do this. I didn’t know it would be like this. No one told me it would be like this. Oh Mother of Darkness, save us.
Tian sounds panicked and it scares me even more. I don’t know if he’s still inside me or not. All I know is that he’s holding on to me for dear life, and I am holding on to him. He’s shaking too, his body shuddering and convulsing.
The screams have died, the struggling ceased, the hartbeats stilled. Silent dark prevails. I am dead. Tian is too. There is no more.
“Are you alright?”
Groaning I turn my face away. “Go away, I’m dead.”
“Not quite.” Tian’s hand gently caresses my shoulder and I shiver. By body is leaden, but it’s a good heaviness. The heaviness of rest after hard labour.
“Are you sure I’m not dead?”
“I’m very sure.”
“What happened?”
“How much do I have to explain?” Warmth suffuses my body and I try to turn my back, but Tian won’t let me. “I’m sorry. That was cruel. To be honest, that wasn’t…normal. I…should have told you, but….”
Now it’s Tian’s turn to avoid my glance.
“What do you mean? What did you do?”
“I…claimed you.”
“Claimed me?” I said slowly, suspicion making my words sharp. “What does that mean?”
“I don’t know. I…. Wait.” He forestalls my demands, chewing on his lips in such an endearing way
I would have smiled had my mood not been so far removed from amusement.  “When we…when we find our bonded our first touch marks us as mates, but in order to cement the union we need to make a claim. I…don’t know how to explain. I wish I did. Put simply, I opened myself to you – opened myself completely. Every part of me reached out to every part of you…and you accepted me.”
“Accepted? How could I accept you when I didn’t know what was happening?”
“Knowledge often plays no part in the inner workings of the mind and being.”
He sounds apologetic and that makes me angry, so angry. Didn’t I have the right to decide if I wanted him to do…whatever he’d done? Didn’t I have the right to choose if I wanted…what? To be his bonded? His mate? Hadn’t I already made that decision?
Tian gave me space to think and what I thought, after going round and round in circles for a while, was this
Hickory smoked horse buttholes, I think I just kinda got married…and it’s okay. It’s more than okay. So, so much…more.
A moment of blissed out satisfaction was shattered by the bellow that came from the doorway
“What in the name of the Gods is going on here?”

Wednesday Briefs. Demon, Chapter Eight

It seems like ages since I last flashed Lots of things have been going down, mostly life. Had some great times in the recent past and lots of exciting things coming up. In the meantime lets have some hot demon sex

Today I chose the prompt - have a character lick their lips

My beloved’s whimpers, tickling my chest, cause my cock to jump, and I have to shift my hips to ease the pressure on my tight balls. I want nothing more than to bury myself in him, but I have to be careful. He is untouched and I will not have his first time sullied by my lack of control. Our bodies are slick with soap, so it’s easy to slide around until he is on top of me. He raises his head and licks his lips. The tip of his tongue running over the plump rosiness enchants me, and steals all thoughts but those of kissing him. Thrusting my hand into his wet hair, I draw him close and kiss him fiercely.

My prince returns the kiss as passionately as it is given and his breathing quickens, to hitch when I again slide a soap–slicked finger inside him. His body trembles and I know it is because he is fighting with himself – with all the instincts that scream at him to pull away. They scream louder when I work in a second finger. Pulling away from my lips, my beloved buries his face in the crook of my neck and whimpers piteously, his body squirming of its own accord. When I thrust with much greater force, he coughs and bites me.

The burst of pain in my shoulder, rather than reducing my ardour kicks it to another level and I manoeuvre us onto our sides, sending water splashing onto the floor. The air turns acrid as candles hiss into oblivion. Using the buoyancy of the water, I raise one of my beloved’s legs, and before he can question or complain, allow the water as a natural lubricant, to assist my entrance as I work three fingers in as far as I can. He clings to me and moans, until I probe far enough to make him keen.

I soothe him with kisses, while I continue to explore as deeply as I can, gauging his unconscious and increasingly fevered responses. He is hard against me, as I am against him.

My prince is liquid in my arms, his body loose and malleable. I know I can take him in any way I want, but I fear for his life in the bathing pool. Already he has slipped under twice, and although his coughing serves to tighten the muscles around my fingers, I believe the soapy water will do him no good should he take it into his lungs. I therefore release his body, after ensuring he is balanced not to fall, and climb out of the bath. He watches me with hurt, confused eyes, until I scoop him from the pool and carry him, kicking and laughing, to the bedroom, where I lay him gently on the silky soft bed.

I could stand here for many hours, simply watching his chest rise and fall, the perfect nipples stand in moist pride against the pearly wetness of his pale skin. His hair is spread in wild abandon and his perfect, rosy cock still stands proud and prepared. I know we have little time, so I waste none of it.

Falling beside him, I take up where I left off, and he writhes beneath me, his leg clamping around my waist as I probe him firmly, penetrating further with each thrust. His moans are becoming more heated and demanding. “More,” he moans.

“More what?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know. Please, I can’t stand it.”

Changing positon I pause, finding myself on the edge of a cliff. If I enter him I will fall, claiming him as mine and foreswearing against all others. Does he even know? Should I tell him? Even as I ponder, he claws at my back and thrusts his hips, demanding satisfaction in a way that makes me smile. In so many ways my love is innocent and sweet, but he is every inch a prince. Soon he will know that I have power too. Perhaps I do not command a country, but I command powers far more than mere men and arms. I should speak to him of this before I claim him. But there is so little time, and I must take him now if we are to have any chance of surviving what is to come.

“Forgive me,” I whisper as I manipulate my member, pressing against his entrance. A flash of
confusion flickers through his eyes at my words, but it is soon gone, blasted away by the force of my entrance. I thrust deep within and his channel clenches around me, a velvet sheath that holds me firmly and draws me in. When I would pause to give him time to adjust, he claws at me and thrusts his hips against mine. Guttural grunts rumble in his throat and his whole body is thrown into the lovemaking. He moves smoothly, his body rising and falling with mine. For someone so small and frail looking, his strength is incredible. Although he is trembling all over, so badly it worries me for a moment, he doesn’t miss a beat, his body synchronizing perfectly with mine.

I am surprised by the speed at which my body rises towards climax. True, I have not united with another for some time, but even so, I would have liked to prolong the even further, but perhaps the intensity would have proven too much for him if we had taken too much longer.

“What…what’s happening?” he cries into my shoulder.

“Hush, my love. Ride it out.”

“But. I. Oh Gods.” He has barely enough breath to speak and what he had was exhausted when his body starts to shake, deep tremors transferring from him into my cock and balls. Taking hold of his penis, I begin to stroke in time with my thrusts and he unravels completely. Incoherent sounds tumble from him and he twitches uncontrollably, all attempts to synchronise his thrusts to mine abandoned.
