Being the Silverbane pack's omega is killing Josh. His plans to escape are foiled when he is blackmailed into finding a new alpha capable of controlling the largest pack in New England before the Amazons cull it. Josh has no clue how he is going to accomplish this task, let alone stay out of the sights of his power-hungry cousin, Bryce, who is convinced he is the pack’s next alpha.

Josh befriends Andrea, an erratic Amazon trainee, who talks to the ghost of her dead mother and has her own agenda when it comes to the wolf pack. When he is rescued by Gavin, a handsome park ranger driven to live in the furthest reaches of civilization, Josh feels a pull toward him that is more than just physical attraction. The three develop a bond that is stronger than friendship and tested at every turn.

With the help of his new family, Josh must find the strength within him to save the Silverbane pack and defeat the evil that threatens to turn them into killers. Only then can he finally be free.

Excerpt:

“I don't know about this.” Josh waited with Andrea outside the ranger station.

Gavin would be off duty in a few minutes. Andrea's harebrained scheme was the only plan they had time for. Instead of slowly baiting Gavin into revealing his true nature, they were going to have to shock him into it, but Josh was starting to have doubts.

“What if he isn't a werewolf?”

Andrea frowned.

“Okay, what if he is and he tries to kill me?”

“I'll protect you,” Andrea said, but it didn't give Josh much assurance.

“Have you ever won a fight against a werewolf?”

Andrea tore her shirt at the collar, then unbuttoned her jeans.

“Almost,” she said with a smile.

Josh didn't have another second to protest. Andrea pulled him against her so suddenly that their lips collided and her teeth cut into his lips. Just as suddenly, she was pushing him away and screaming.

“No!” Andrea fought to get away from him without really letting go of him. She shook him back and forth. “You're hurting me!”

Then, Josh was being hurled backwards.

“What the fuck is going on?” Gavin shouted.

Josh scrambled to his feet.

“I don't know,” Andrea said through sobs. Blood smeared her lips and tears drenched her cheeks. “He said he wouldn't share me, that I was his.”

As ridiculous as it sounded, Gavin looked utterly convinced that Josh had attacked Andrea. Gavin's chest expanded from more than just heavy breathing. The fabric of his uniform strained against flexing muscles, but it was the wild look in his eyes that worried Josh. Gavin was on the verge of losing control. He actually looked like he could transform.

“Go inside,” Gavin said to Andrea, without taking his eyes off Josh. “I'll deal with this bastard.”

Josh scrambled backwards as Gavin stalked toward him. The normally good-natured ranger was seething with rage. His soft brown eyes were hard and flinty.

“I told you to stay away from her.” He hauled Josh up by his collar and threw him against a tree.

Josh cowered against the tree trunk and waited for the inevitable beating. Gavin loomed over him, his breathing ragged, but no blows came. He seemed to be struggling within himself, his hands clawing at the tree bark and his eyes shut. Josh could see him regaining control over his anger. If he didn't act soon, Gavin would calm himself enough that Josh would never know if he could save the pack.

“She's mine,” Josh said. It was a timid challenge, but a challenge nonetheless. “I saw her first. I'm not going to give her up without a fight.”

He stripped off his shirt and tried to remember how Silverbane looked just before he transformed. At a foot shorter and fifty pounds lighter, Josh wouldn't have been surprised if Gavin laughed at him. But Gavin was lost to his anger, taking off his shirt and backing away, ready to fight.

“Come on,” he said, and motioned for Josh to attack him. “Let's settle this.”

The air was electric on Josh's skin. He could feel the gravel shift under his feet. He smelled the forest behind him and the testosterone of the menacing male in front of him. For the first time in his life, he was going to have to fight to save those he cared about. Even if it meant getting hurt or dying, Josh had to bring out Gavin's beast and test him as Elaine would.

He took a swing at Gavin, but Gavin had already moved to the side. A crushing pain in Josh's ribs was followed by a blow that knocked him from his feet, and he scrambled to put space between them. There was no doubt that Gavin could best him in a fist fight. The only other person Josh had ever taken a swing at was Andrea, and she had dealt with him like he was no more than a child throwing a temper tantrum.

If he was going to challenge Gavin, Josh had to transform. He felt close to it. His muscles ached to expand. Inside his body, he felt the howl of the beast that cried to be set free but refused to break the invisible pack bond that held it in check. The full moon was so close. Even Elaine and Bryce looked ready to heed its call earlier. Why couldn't Josh?

Gavin attacked, but it was Josh's turn to evade. He might not be a fighter, but he was an expert in avoiding getting hurt. The more he evaded Gavin, the angrier Gavin got. His body was beginning the transformation. The seams of his pants split and the leather of his boots creaked under the force of expanding feet.

“Fight me.” Gavin's voice was little more than a barely intelligible grunt. “Fight.”

As close as he was to transforming, something was holding him back. Maybe he didn't have control over it.
Josh had seen teenage pack members experience their first transformations without a command from Silverbane. It was a struggle that could last hours. His own first time had come at Silverbane's command. He'd been fourteen, older than most werewolves who transformed when they reached puberty, and even after he'd taken wolf form, he had cowered until Silverbane released him.

Gavin's swings were faster and harder, but less coordinated. It was getting harder for Josh to predict where they'd come from and how to avoid them. Josh had only transformed a handful of times under Silverbane's command. Now that his alpha was gone, he had to find out if Gavin was his new alpha.

“You want me to fight?” Josh said stepping out of the way of a wild haymaker.

“Yes, fight me now.”

The pull from Gavin was undeniable. Josh realized then that there was nothing he could refuse Gavin; not because he was infatuated with him, but because Gavin was his alpha. Josh would do whatever it took to satisfy him. Right now that meant having the strength to give him the fight he needed.

Blurb:
Josh has a plan: get through uni with a good degree and no debts. Focused on his goals, he’s working as an escort to pay his way. He enjoys the no-strings sex and doesn’t have the time or inclination for a relationship. Falling in love definitely isn’t part of the deal—especially not with a client.

When Rupert meets Josh in a bar, he’s smitten on sight. He’s never paid for sex before, but when Josh propositions him, he can’t resist. He should have known one night would never be enough. Luckily for him, he has an inheritance to support his addiction to Josh, because his job in IT wouldn’t cover the cost.

With each appointment the lines get increasingly blurred. Something is developing between them that feels more like a relationship than a business transaction, but they come from different worlds and to go from client-and-escort to lovers seems impossible. If they want a future together, Josh and Rupert have a lot to overcome.

Excerpt:

“I like your lip ring,” Rupert said. His gaze dropped lower to Josh’s collarbones. “What are your tattoos of?”
“Swallows.” Rupert would just be able to see the wing tips that showed in this low-necked T-shirt. “Two of them.”
“Have you got any other tattoos?”
Josh gave a slow, teasing smile. “Maybe. Do you want me to show you?”
Rupert met his eyes again. There was a flicker of uncertainty before he answered. “Yes. I’d like that.”
Josh turned over the possibilities in his mind. It had been a long time since he’d had sex for anything other than for money. He usually saw clients at least three nights a week. They scratched the itch for him, and he didn’t have the time or inclination to hook up with other guys. He hadn’t dated since he’d started working as an escort. Josh didn’t like lying about his job, but most guys didn’t want to date escorts.
It would be easy to pick Rupert up tonight, though, and have no-strings sex with him for fun rather than cash. But Josh’s rent was due.
“Me too. But it’ll cost you,” he finally said.
Rupert frowned, obvious confusion crossing his features as he tried to make sense of Josh’s words. “What? I don’t—”
“You’re hot, and I wish I could do this without asking you for money. But a client let me down this evening. I have a hotel room booked and paid for next door, and I need someone to cover the cost for me.” The lie came smoothly. “I can’t afford to have sex for free tonight.”
Rupert’s mouth dropped open. Shock was evident on his face, but there was something else that was harder to read. His cheeks flooded pink again and his eyes went dark. “You’re….” His voice came out husky, and he cleared his throat. “You’re a….”
“A sex worker. An escort, to be precise. Hooker, rent boy, you get the gist. I’m an expensive one too. But my clients think I’m worth the money.” Josh waited, tension making a muscle tick in his jaw as he forced himself to stay still and hold Rupert’s gaze. On the occasions he’d tried picking up clients face-to-face, their reactions had varied. Interest, anger, excitement, disgust… he’d seen them all. He steeled himself, ready for rejection.
Rupert licked his lips. “How much?” he finally asked.

Interview

He couldn’t speak. The lump in his throat threatened to choke him. All he could do was stare. His eyes grew wider as both of his friends leaned in toward him, sandwiching him between them.

“Shh, it’s ok. We gotcha,” Danny whispered as he nuzzled along Jay’s jaw line.

“Relax. Ain't no one gunna hurt you. Not with me here.” Declan’s deep baritone voice sent a shiver through Jay. All three of them had been lifelong friends. Danny and Declan both knew what Jay had given up to look after Sylvie. They’d stuck by him, helped him, and watched each other’s backs numerous times in the past. They were close; however, they had never been as close as they were right then.

But, as he'd thought earlier, things had changed. Marrenzo wanted Declan. The mafia boss’s son would stop at nothing to get him which put Danny at risk and made whatever was happening between the three of them, a one-time thing. It was goodbye. Jay felt it, had known it was inevitable. Bringing up both of his hands, Jay held their faces in his palms and smiled through the tears.

“I fucking love you guys! Stay safe, stay together and let me know you’re both ok. Brothers to the end.” Jay leaned in one at a time and kissed both men. His lips tasted them, their tongues sought his. The kiss was warm, welcoming and greedily consumed. He’d have given anything; everything to have the same with Orrin.

“Brothers to the end,” Declan rumbled and moved in, taking Jay's mouth.

“Always,” Danny whispered as he slipped his hand down over Jay’s chest. His fingers fumbled, slipping beneath Jay’s tee shirt. He lifted it slowly as though he were unwrapping something to be savored and enjoyed. Declan's hand followed, lifting with Danny until the shirt was removed and Jay lay on his side. Danny faced him chest to his chest and Declan curved in around his back.

The warmth of their bodies felt so good. Hard chests from hours of working out in back yards made Jay feel more wanted and connected than he’d ever felt before. Tears stung his eyes. Even being held between the two people he’d grown up with, trusted and loved, Jay's heart refused to let go of its want of Orrin’s touch.

“I can’t,” Jay whispered as he buried his face against Danny’s chest.

“You love him? Your Fed?” Declan asked before brushing his lips lightly over the back of Jay’s neck. Warm breath fanned across his shoulders, teasing the small hairs that reached up for more.

“He’s not a Fed,” Jay replied. “He’s NCIS; a naval investigator. He needed the low down on Marrenzo and rather than go for the inside knowledge chose to see what the opposing side knew about him,” Jay explained. He wanted them to understand that he hadn’t sold them out.

“Hold on. You knew all of this time? You guys knew and never said a word?” Jay asked and rolled onto his back to face both of his friends.

“Fed, Cop, MP, NCIS, it's all the same to me.”

Interview

Hello Cheryl darlin! We are super thrilled to be here! Thank you for hosting us during the blog tour! We so appreciate the support.

Let’s start by telling us, in twenty words, or less, what you’re book’s about.
J.T.: A falsely accused Navy Commander calls a priest for help. Sparks fly! Add a foster brother and a gangbanger and...BOOM!
Damn that was hard!
V.L.: Injustice, unrequited love, yearning, realisation, hope and new beginnings along with just a dash of sex.

What was it that led you to write in the genre(s) you write?

V.L.:       A lot of pushing LOL As I’ve never believed that I am that good a writer. I pole played in the usual groups such as BDB where I was very privileged to have made some very good friends who persuaded me to try my hand at writing a book, TERROR!!! Suffice to say, I have never looked back, and although some friendships didn’t last, my appreciation for them and the multitude of  people that continue to encourage me to write will remain steadfast, but above all that, I have to say that I owe everything to JT. She is my rock as well as my sounding board.

J.T.:        My first book was male/female. It was fun to write, and I’ll never regret publishing it. But, in the back of my mind lurked Vishous and Butch from the BDB series. They should have been together. It irritated me to no end and still does that Ward built this amazing relationship between them and then denied us the hawt spectacle of their mating. Yeah, I know its her book and she gets to make those choices; I get that as an author, but something inside tells me...she didn’t follow her gut on that one. It ticked me off that Vishous didn’t get his true mate because he was male. Mainstream wasn’t ready for it. I was. I also read Special Forces by Voinov and there was nothing out there as powerful as the love between Dan and Vadim. The voices that showed up in my head after that were all male demanding to have their stories told. I couldn’t refuse them, don’t want to refuse them because damn....they are hotness.

Are your books character led or plot led, or both?

J.T.:        A bit of both I think. When writing with V.L., we usually have a general idea of where the story is supposed to go. We know who the characters are; however, things are subject to change as the writing process evolves. Broken Oaths was supposed to be just Thierry and Ryan. But, when the writing started, Orrin showed up and the story veered off in a totally different direction. No matter the plot you have outlined, the characters tend to throw curveballs that you have to go with or else they stop talking to you. That makes it a bit hard to write. LOL.

V.L.: Hmmm!!!! That’s a tricky one. I usually start off with an idea along the lines of what the story consists of and a distorted plot line before I envision what sort of characters should be portrayed. Then it’s a matter of building them up while the story revolves around them.

What is your favourite part of the writing process?

V.L.: The ideas, the plot lines and the mapping out of the whole story line gives me a great buzz. I suck at the actual writing as I need complete silence to write due to the fact I get very easily distracted. And with two grown sons at home it can get very noisy.

J.T.:        My favorite part is the actual writing. I love to sit down and get sucked into whatever story I’m working on at the moment. I love the challenge of telling the story. I laugh, cry and growl while I write. I also enjoy brainstorming with V.L. She has amazing ideas and stretches my boundaries while challenging me to do better with each book. I love the connection we share through the writing.

What is your least favourite part of the writing process?

J.T.:        Edits! Oh the horror!!
V.L.: Promotion. I’m not great with people and I tend to shy away from having to put myself out there.

Where do you get your inspiration for your characters?

V.L.:       Dreams, walking, watching tv or just staring out of the window, even songs give me storys of which I can build into the lives of character based books.

J.T.:        Everywhere! Just seeing a name that I like can trigger a brainstorm. They pop up when I’m working, driving, eating, shopping. I can see a man walking down the street that captures my attention and my imagination is off and running. Entire plots and character attributes are popping like popcorn in my head. I never have anything to write on either. Except they never really go away. They linger in there waiting...prowling...watching for a chance to pounce and demand their story be told. It’s not a bad thing actually. I love it.

Tell us a little about the characters in your book and their story. You can use more than twenty words this time.

J.T.:  Hmm. Thierry is a Navy Commander, or he was. To start the story, he’s been jailed for treason by a crooked Admiral. Locked away on a military base, he uses the only resource he has to make contact with the outside world. His religion. Through machinations he knows nothing about, Father Ryan Flynn is sent to take Thierry’s confession. Thierry is blown away by the sexy priest. He makes the decision to trust the priest with his secrets while fighting his body’s response to the man.

Father Flynn is a tormented man. He joined the priesthood at a very young age to escape the sinful lust/love he held for his foster brother, Orrin. He struggles with the past for many reasons while dedicating his life to his faith and his parishioners. When he meets the charismatic Commander, everything he’s worked for is threatened. But, he can’t resist the compelling sailor. To make his struggle all the harder, Orrin enters the picture and demands Ryan face his past and his future.
And I’ll stop there and let V.L. tell you about Orrin and Jay.

V.L.: *Grins* I LOVE Orrin and Jay. Orrin has pined all his life for Ryan and grown a heart of stone due to the fact that Ryan couldn’t love him in the way Orrin wanted him to. However, on building an alliance with Jay, a street savvy gang leader, that  grows into a tentative friendship, Orrin comes to realise that what he’s been looking for all of his life, is right there in front of him and just maybe there’s a second chance at love, if he’s brave enough to take off the blinkers and see more than just Ryan.

If you could have one wish what would it be?

V.L.:       I would wish the same for JT, I lost one of my older brothers over twenty years ago and it devasted my family. We have never been the same since, so I know what JT is going through, I just wish she didn’t have to go through the depth of grief from losing someone so young.
J.T.:        I would wish to have my brother Nathan back. He died far too young. He had so much life and so much to give the world. His children need their dad. His death devastated my mom. I hate seeing her in pain. I miss him terribly.

What's your deepest fear?
J.T.:        Losing one of my children.

V.L.:       The same…Losing a child. Nothing prepares you for that.

If I came to dinner what would you feed me?

V.L.:       I’m sooo laughing as I know for well you’re likely to starve if it’s left to JT. There is no hope of you ever getting fed…I come from a large Irish family, so we had to learn. Roast dinners, steak, bacon and cabbage, Italian , Indian, take your pick. While I don’t so much enjoy doing the likes of quick evening meals, I do love to cook set meals for special occasions.

J.T.:        Ohhh I’m so laughing right now. I hope you come when V.L. and I are together. She can cook. Amazing cook! Me...it would be best to order out Chinese or pizza. I don’t have the patience to cook and when I try, I forget the pot’s on the stove. I’ve burned boiled eggs; had the shells stuck to the bottom of the pan and the smoke alarm screaming at me. Not my speciality at all!

Which of your characters would you like to be sharing the dinner table with us?

J.T.:        All of them from the Crimson Nights Saga...well not Darklon. Can you imagine sitting down with Lachi, Laz, Vischeral, Copi, Roman, Tobias, Arial, Bastian, Saul, Kimberly, Mirabella, Lance, Clariel, Celix....we need a BIG table! Because that’s not all of them...*winks*...the next book will introduce more smexies for you to love.

V.L.: Definitely our boys and DD (Vischeral Bourne) Just so as to hear the banter between him and Laz.

Tell us in the character’s own words, what he/she would have to say about you.

V.L.: Orrin and Jay both agree on the fact that I’m not a people person, I’m quite the hermit and I like to keep my private life …Private. I can be very argumentative, especially if I feel wronged and I once I’ve been hurt, I do bear grudges. However, I am kind and even though I don’t love or trust easily I am loyal.

J.T.:        Well since I was scared to ask the priest what he thought of my wicked self, Thierry said:
“J.T. is a stubborn, opinionated female who loves with her whole heart and would fight dragons to keep the ones she loves safe.”
I think he knows me pretty well.

What would they say (again in their own words) about themselves, and their story that will make us want to read about it?

J.T.: You should see the smirk on Thierry’s face when I asked him that question. He needs a priest in his life, that one has the mischief devil in his eyes. Lucky Ryan!
“My life was a living hell trapped in that cell with no hope of ever getting out. A God I had lost faith in heard my prayers and sent me an angel on Earth to save not only my life but to heal my soul. I would not be here today if not for Ryan. He risked his life, tested his faith and sacrificed everything...because he loved me.” – Thierry Donovan
AWWWWWW! Makes me want to go back and visit with them again!

V.L.: Ryan wants more than anything for Thierry to sin just so as to see him on his knees, what happens next is a BLOW by BLOW account of just how perfect Ryan thinks they are for each other. As for Orrin and Jay, Jay hides behind joviality and a smart mouth, however, when push comes to shove, Jay is the first one to be there, he is brave and very over protective of Orrin. He is very outspoken and loves to take charge which Orrin revels in. Orrin’s quite reserved and can be a little hot headed. He loves having a family, one that is actually forged by blood and loves Jay with every fibre of his being. Jay was the balm to sooth his fractured mind and put back the pieces of his heart.

Which other fictional character(s) would you like to be present at the dinner party?

V.L.: LASSITER and LAZ at the same table YAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE!!!! OMG and I have to say this, but I’d have to have ALL of Nicholas Bella’s House of Theoden characters there too. That would be one hell of an orgy!

J.T.:        Vishous and Butch! I think I would faint dead away. And Dan and Vadim and Seth and Elijah from Love Life and Circumstance...hell all of the males from our stories. Derek Sagan...Seriously, we don’t have a table big enough. Jenks. The sex demons and the four horseman from the Demonica series. Roarke and Eve. Okay, we are going to have to make it a field party or something.

What other authors would you say have either influenced your writing or you would like to emulate?

J.T.:        I love J.R. Ward and Voinov. Ward is funny and created a dynamic world of vampires that almost has a cult following. She is amazing. Voinov wrote the single most compelling story I’ve ever read. I would faint to even be considered an author on their level.

V.L.: Voinov…Voinov and oh did I say VOINOV. I would love to be capable of the degree of mastery in which he wites. As much as Special forces broke me apart, it was an epic read. However, he has written some amazing books, one of which is my all-time fave The Dark Souls collection. LOVE IT

Which character from literature, would you most like to have invented?

V.L.: Jesus…As we only ever hear about him in books and are yet to actually meet him, it would be so freakin awesome to be the one to turn around and say…”Hey dickhead. I am the son of god, and nowhere in my book does it say that I hate gays. Get a life and stop judging others or so help me I will strike thee down with leprosy or some such shit. I’m a dude who hangs out with twelve other men…GET OVER IT!”

J.T.:        Dracula! Can you imagine being the creator of that vampire?

What do you prefer writing. A one off novel, a series or short stories?

J.T.:        Well I suck at short stories. I have way too much to say. So that’s out. I love to read series and love the idea of continuing a story over a span of several books. Writing Crimson Nights, I’ve realized that its very hard. There is constant checking to make sure you don’t make blonde hair turn brown from one book to the next or having to remember that this character loves bacon while this character detests it. You have to have a reference manual or you go nuts trying to remember it all. Stand alones are easier. You write the story and then you move on to the next. But then, you miss those characters you fell in love with and want to revisit them. Vicious circle....I can’t choose between them.

V.L.: I prefer one offs, however, as I am incapable of writing a short story, it has to be a long one off. My personal preference for reading is also big long books or a series that you don’t have to wait for a yearly release until you get the next one.

What kind of books do you read (if you have time to read)?

V.L.: Gay literature and paranormal are my favorites. I don’t mind the romance as long as it’s not all fluff. I love dark and disturbing erotica and story’s that push the boundaries of taboo subjects. The darker the better.

J.T.:        I read everything. Gay, romance, biography, western, paranormal, contemporary, historical, sci-fi, mystery. Whatever is handy and sounds good at the time. I’ve been known to have three books on the go at the same time.

Where do you see yourself personally and professionally in 5 years time?

J.T.:        Living in England and writing with V.L.

V.L.:      What she said!

Do you have any other projects in the offing we should look out for?

V.L.: As JT said, The crimson Nights Saga is under way, plus I have three solo story’s over half way that I am trying to work on R.L permitting. Earl and Louis story is a more personnel project and in some ways cathartic. It tells the story of Earl a twenty seven year old male who has been abused at the hands of his father all his life and Louis, an ex-cop who now owns his own security firm who also blackmails Seattle’s elite as a way to fund his lifestyle, that is until he comes into contact with Earl. From there on, Louis life is turned on its ass….

J.T.:        We’re working on Crimson Ties, book three in the Crimson Nights Saga. Lachi and Laz have adjustments to make in their lives. Their ever widening inner circle of friends are dealing with the twists and turns of life while new characters are making waves.

I’m also working on Logan’s and Trevor’s story. I started it back in 2013 and have come back to it after finishing Ansleigh’s Grotto. Logan is a retired Army HALO paratrooper and Trevor is a police detective in Rolling Fork, MS. A killer is on the loose and Trevor is out to get him; however, forensic evidence is pointing to the man he’s lusting after, one Logan Andrews.

Thank you so much for answering my questions in such a full and entertaining way. I loved your book and I will be posting a review in a few days' time. Watch this space for my honest opinion of a great book.

Throwback Thursday

I am so bad at keeping my blogs current. I have enough trouble coming up with posts for book tours etc, then when I have to do something original for my blogs I'm hopeless. In a pathetic attempt to fill time and space, and with everything going retro these days I thought it might amuse you my audience of one, to look back at what was going on in the beginning. This blog is now, amazingly three years old and it might be interesting for me, also, to see what I was up to three years ago,

My very first blog post, back in January 2012 said this

Welcome to my very first blog.

If you are reading this then I have to give you a big cyber hug and say thank you for giving me your time.

I have just been very privileged to have my first two books publised. They can be found here http://www.allromanceebooks.com/storeSearch.html?searchBy=author&qString=Nephylim

Or http://www.bookstrand.com/the-unfairness-of-life

Or http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4462803.Nephylim

I am so excited and I would be eternally grateful if you would take a look, have a read and then leave some comments at the goodreads site.

In some of the places you can read a good chunk of the book so you can see how great I am

Oh how naive I was. I figure I pretty much still am

My first entertaining blog post was on 17th January, and was a consideration of two different aesthetics of beauty

I have been looking at lots of blogs and it appears that lots of people like the beefy man, rather than the beautiful. Now I happen to disagree so, drop me a comment and let me know if you prefer

BEEFCAKE

OR BEAUTY

I think it is pretty obvious who and what I prefer ;)

I think that Andrej Peijic is the most beautiful man who ever walked the earth. NOTE: I have since changed my opinion, not least because she never really was a man, and second because I found someone else to obsess over :) Andreja was always more Maria's obsession than mine, although at least now I know why her eyes were always so haunted.

I am sure that many of you will disagree so tell me :)

And there you have it. My first blundering steps in blogging. Next week maybe we'll take a look at some of the guests I've had along the way and maybe reintroduce some of the more fun ideas I started.

Wednesday Briefs. Demon Chapter Twelve

Here is another Wednesday, the day before school starts. I know a lot of parents can't wait for school but we've had such a good time this year over the summer, I'm probably more devastated than he is :)

Anyway, lets cheer myself up with another flash and a picture of kittens, which is the prompt I chose this week

I am still so confused. One minute my love is grovelling at the feet of a tyrant, and the next he is being petted by the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, while the very tyrant watches with an expression alternating between fondness and distain. Jandra seems as confused as I am.

“What the hell’s going on?” she asks.

“Jandra, please,” her mother scolds. “There is no need for coarse language.”

“Coarse language? I’ll say a lot worse if you don’t tell me what’s going on.”

“All in its time,” the queen says. She holds her hand out to me. “Come, sit with me and we will talk.”
I glance at the king, who nodded. There was none of the fondness in his eyes they held when regarding his son, but that is as it should be.

I sit down, but not in the seat indicated by the queen. I must be with my prince and, as there is no place for me on the seat beside him, I sink to the ground and lean against his leg. I feel the shock shudder through him, and his hand on my hair appears to be a reflex. Nevertheless, it feels good.

I jump, startled, when something cold and wet touches my hand, Ducking my head slightly reveals a basket, half under the seat, which contains a kindle of sleeping, orange and white kittens. The heart–warming cries of the waking creatures soften my heart as they tumble over each other and climb out of the basket on wobbly legs.

One of the kittens, braver than the rest, had already approached me, and its nose what the stimulus that prompted my attention. This little fellow led its brothers and sisters in a rough–and– tumble game to scale my legs.

“You certainly seem to have a way with animals, Tian,” the Queen said, leaning down to fondle one of the kittens with her small, neat hand. “These are no ordinary kittens. Are you familiar with firecats?”

Familiar with them? I shudder. Firecats are the fiercest wild cats in the kingdom. Whilst not among the largest in the feline community, they were feared for their keen hunting instinct and wild natures. They are called ‘fire’ cats because the merest scratch from their razor caws burns like fire and their poison sends fire through the blood. These are kits though, so their claws are not yet venomous.

“Indeed, Your Majesty, although fortunately I have not had cause to feel their fire for myself.”

The queen laughed. Taking a handful of nuts from a bowl at her side, she scatters them, and my prince’s leg shakes as he laughs at the antics of the kittens as they chase the nuts, tumbling and falling over each other.

“If you’ve had enough playing with the kittens,” Jandra says sourly “perhaps someone can tell us what the hell’s going on.”

“Relax, dear,” the queen says, “your father can explain everything.”

Everyone turns their eyes toward the king who straightens his back and clasps his hands behind him.

“I believe we owe you an apology for the treatment you were given. However, had you heeded your father’s advice, it would never have happened.”

“My…my father’s advice?”

Of all the things I might have expected to hear, this was the least of them. I do not need to wrack my brains to recall the advice of which he speaks. The last I spoke to my father he had forbidden me to leave our lands until he had made proper arrangements. If only I had listened. But the call of my heart was too loud.

“You father and I have been talking for some time. Do you realize your rash actions might have caused years of talks and careful planning to swept aside, or at the least put back by a significant portion.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Neither do I,” my betrothed ventured, his forehead furrowed by concern. “You knew?” he says, his voice coloured with anger. “All this time you knew where the demons were, and you were talking to them? Why did you allow the myths to continue? Why did you not tell everyone the demons are not demons; are not a threat?”

Warmth floods my heart that my prince would defend me so.

“Oh they are a threat. Make no mistake with that. They are the greatest threat we face, which is why I have been working so hard on the talks. I will not go into any of that; not in Tian’s presence. Such things are best discussed around a negotiating table with ones cards tightly clutched to one’s chest.”

“It is our way to have our cards laid down face upward on the table, if indeed we have cards at all.”

“And that is why your kind have been driven into the darkness of the swamps while we bask in the sunshine.”

Amusement suffuses my body with warmth. It bubbles in my heart and lifts my spirit. “If that is what you think,” I say, with a warm smile for my beloved, “then you have not seen as many of our cards as you believe you have.”

“What do you mean?” the king asks sharply.

“It is for me to explain. If my father has not seen fit to invite you in to our heartland, it is not for me to tell you what you would find there.”

“You are as slippery as your father.”

“Not at all. I just do not wish to upset the balance of the negotiations. You appreciate that I would not be so well received at home were I to have upset the talks to our disadvantage.”

The king laughed, a deep, sincere laugh. “You are your father’s son, no doubt. Remind me when next we speak, to inquire why he did not see fit to inform me that when you came seeking a mate, it would be my son and not my daughter you claimed.”

“Does it make a difference?”

SO there we go. The secret is out. The king has been negotiating with demons. I wonder how that will go down - with the people of the kingdom, and the demons. Come to think of it, why were they negotiating? What changed to bring them together? Might there be a common threat perhaps? Something neither of them has a hope of defeating alone? Is it physical or some kind of plague? Oooh, I have no idea. Can't wait to write it to find out.

In the meantime go check out the rest of the flashers this week
