Blurb:

In the much-anticipated sequel to Go Your Own Way, high school seniors Lennox McAvoy and Will Osborne pick up right where they left off—navigating the tumultuous waters of a new relationship and dealing with Will’s disapproving father.

When a violent incident forces Lennox to give up his independent ways, he must come to terms with his past just as Will is grappling with his future. As Will’s college plans become reality, will Lennox have the courage to go after the opportunities he doesn’t think he deserves?

Excerpt:

The band room was empty when he pushed the door open, but the piano was set up like it was almost every afternoon these days. Only Mr. Robinette and a music stand littered with sheet music was absent.
   "Hello?"
The silence struck Lennox as odd, but as he sat down he also realized how strange it was to announce himself. So much had changed since the first time he'd snuck in here to play on his own. Now he was auditioning for some college he still couldn't fathom.
To make Will happy. And maybe a little bit for himself.
"Ah, I wondered if you were going to show up."
Mr. Robinette was behind him, the door to his office now wide open. He'd taken off his tie and undone a few buttons on his shirt like he did most afternoons when they practiced.
"You just want to play it through a few times or mess around with something else?"
Lennox took a seat at the piano, but didn't both opening his bag. He'd memorized the piece he was playing by Valentine's Day and now, almost two weeks later, he could write it out measure for measure on blank sheet music. But playing it was becoming repetitive. For two hours, three times a week, almost nonstop with the same four pages and nothing else.
"I'd rather try something new. That piece is getting a little old."
Mr. Robinette smiled and pulled a chair up beside him. "I had a nightmare the other night and it was the theme song while I ran around a haunted house Scooby Doo style."
"You didn't catch a ride in the Mystery Machine, did you? I've always wanted that van."
"I've got a lunch box version of it. It doesn't fit much though because it's too narrow. Anyway, play what you want. I'll be here until about four-thirty, so it's all yours."
As Mr. Robinette returned to his office, Lennox pulled what had become his music notebook out of his bag and opened it to the latest page. He'd taken to composing during class when he should have been taking notes, especially calculus where he had no reason to pay attention anyway.
The latest page was a tune he'd come up with while the other kids had been tapping their pencils and erasing answers. Every moment of his life carried a rhythm, a melody, and an emotion he could create with, and his notebook was becoming a testament to that. He played through everything he'd jotted down over the past few days, but after several rounds he kept coming back to one. It was a piano version he'd tried—and mostly failed—to create of one of the songs Will had played on a loop a few weeks ago.
"I'm getting ready to lock up!"
Mr. Robinette's voice carried out of the office and into the band room. A few minutes and several jingles of Mr. Robinette's keys later, the office door was shut and Lennox was closing the cover on the keys.
"That last piece you were playing, was it a cover?"
Lennox shrugged as they headed for the door.
"It was supposed to be. Didn't sound much like the song."
"Well, the others did. They were all really good, even the ones that weren't covers."
   "Uh, thanks."
Lennox watched him at the door to the parking lot for a moment. He'd been a great help over the last month—all year if Lennox was honest. Mr. Robinette had believed in him in his own way since school had begun, and thanks to him he had a decent shot at this audition.
"Thanks for… all of this. I actually feel like—just thanks."
Mr. Robinette gave him a genuine smile and patted him on the shoulder.
"You're very welcome. Let me know how it goes when you get back, okay? I'm rooting for you. Got all of my fingers and limbs crossed. You deserve the chance. Don't doubt that or yourself."
   "I-I won't."
It was funny to have so many people believing in him after so long. Happiness was a strange feeling as well. Until he'd let Will into his life he couldn't remember how to capture such a feeling in his chest and keep it there.

Cosmic Inception by Cia Nordwell

Cia Nordwell and I met over on Gay Authors quite a few years ago and I fell in love with her stories as soon as she started writing them. There's one particular story that I can never remember the name of, with a blue alien that has stuck in my memory all these years and is one of the best sci fi I've ever read. If you have any doubt about Cia's skill or want to taste her work before you buy then head over to GA and you'll find plenty of reasons to buy her Cosmic Inception series and all her other books.

Take the plunge into universes unimaginable and fall in love with characters so real you might be friends with them on Facebook. Buckle in for the ride of your life and don't forget the other great books you can find by following the links below.

Happy travelling.

Envisioning Alien Worlds Part 1

One of the greatest parts of writing sci-fi is getting to use my imagination. I’ve been working on expanding my use of environments to bring in the ‘alien’ feel along with the actual aliens. Truthfully, the two usually go hand in hand since the planet often dictates the development of the species that call in home. In Cosmic Inception I really got a chance to expand my world-building chops with several new locations for Nick and Fieo to explore. The best part was that this was all new to Nick so I had his fresh eyes to share the settings with readers.

Afiowa Tau is one of the planets they visit, and at first look it seems like a paradise. The planet is mostly ocean, and it’s a warm environment so the water is crystal clear. But it’s so warm during the day cycle the planet has no discernable life on the few jutting spires of rock emerging from the ocean.

But there’s a whole underwater world that the characters get to explore, and you don’t get to meet just one alien species you get to meet... well, let’s just say it’s really interesting! As a bonus, I thought I’d share a picture to help you “see” the planet like I do. Enjoy!

Their journey will span the universe and back, but there’s no guarantee they’ll make it together.

Though Nick and Fieo are drawn to each other, their relationship has never been easy. Their differences go beyond their races, but they’ve managed to work together to prevent the spread of corruption, growing closer along the way. Nick still battles the effects of years of loneliness, fear, and pain but surprises everyone when he refuses to stay behind when Fieo is sent on a vital mission to find the Collectors. Fieo objects, but there’s no stopping Nick when he sets his mind to something. Over the course of their mission, it becomes clear Nick is more than anyone ever imagined, but the mystery of his past threatens to derail his future.

The search for the truth will take Fieo and Nick far from Caeorleia, to worlds both familiar and completely alien, and put stress on their already tenuous relationship. It’s a journey that will either tear them apart or finally bring them together.

Reintroducing Silver

For those of you who don't know, Silver is a character in a series of books - The Enigma Series which I am in the process of writing. So far two are released, Enigma and Enigma II Fighting the Man.

Quite simply, I am in love with Silver. He is the subject of more fan art and feedback than any character I have written and he is definitely the most intriguing and fun to write. One of the fascinations of Silver is that he's not perfect. He suffers from mental health issues arising from a traumatic past and throughout the whole series he struggles with them and with coming to terms with a world he simply doesn't understand. He's a lot like me in that.

Through Silver I explore a lot of things that puzzle and upset me in my own life and the world I live in. When River tries to explain things like religion and homophobia to Silver I'm really trying to explain it to myself and when Silver doesn't understand, neither do I.

I'm currently working on book III and I hope to get that into publication soon, but in the meantime I want to bring Silver back to the forefront.

Now the Enigma series is not the most polished of my works as I have not had the benefit of much professional editing, but they are by far my favourite stories and characters and I want everyone to love Silver as much as I do.

But Silver is not the only character in the Enigma books. River is his former carer and now partner. He is often overlooked but is the mainstay of Silver's world. He is also flawed and as much as he loves Silver struggled to come to terms with having to look after someone with Silver's special needs. He makes a lot of mistakes and causes a lot of heartache to himself and Silver, but he tries hard and genuinely loves Silver to the moon and back.

In Book I we briefly meet Sam, a specials ops policeman, who grows through Book II and forward to be a good friend to the boys and is the voice of reason when River loses the plot, which he does often.

Also in Book II we meet my second favourite character in this series, Ariel. Ariel is a small bundle of energy who nurses and unrequited love for Silver fro beginning to end, but becomes his very best friend. No one who meets Ariel will ever forget him. He's feisty, brave, beautiful, sweet, angry, spiteful, tender, outspoken and above all loyal. He's everything a friend should be and more wrapped up in a small bundle of white hair and attitude.

I wrote a post back in 2013 which, I think gives a good introduction to these characters as well as some pretty special art. Take a glimpse into the world of Enigma and fall in love

Dawn to Dusk by Alina Popescu

Synopsis

That first encounter with Robert in rural Romania at eleven. A summer spent together in the same setting a year later. Their first text exchange in high school. The first sexual experience. The first heartbreak—the second and third and fourth chance. The point of total breakdown and the despair of failing. More love than anyone could have warned him about.

No matter how much time passes, no matter how different their paths, every meeting brings Edi and Robert closer together. Those stolen moments shine brighter than any. Yet loving Robert is not easy, not when Edi wants to be true to himself and is met with dishonesty. Or when Robert keeps parading new conquests and ignores Edi more often than not.

Edi has always loved Robert, but he must decide if his journey leads to or away from his childhood friend. Is it true love or is Edi just unable to let go?

Excerpt

What a big jerk. I frowned at the new boy and he must have noticed because he tilted his head and stared at me. His smirk still in place, he winked before returning his attention to the game.
“Who’s that other kid playing with Nicu?” I asked after bumping my shoulder into Tatiana’s to get her attention.
“That’s our cousin, Robert,” she said, smiling all adoringly at him. “He’s from Bucharest.”
I rolled my eyes at that tidbit. Just great, another brat from the capital! The other Bucharest kid was staying with the neighbors on the other side of my grandma’s house. He was full of himself, he had a funny walk, and I wanted to punch him right in the face every time I saw him. What was it with these kids from the Capital, anyway? They thought they were better than the rest just because of the city they’d been born into.
Robert and Nicu played until the younger one was thoroughly defeated. Nicu begged Robert for a rematch, but he refused. Holding the ball against his right hip, he turned to face me. “What about you, kid? Wanna be the next one I beat?”
I wanted to tell him where to shove that ball of his, but I stopped myself. I probably shouldn’t get into another fight. I might be shipped to the other grandparents for the rest of the summer. Or worse, get my ass kicked by this older kid.

“Nah, too hot to play now anyways.”
“Are you a chicken?” Robert asked. His mocking tone angered me, but not as much as his stupid cousins parroting the “chicken” part and laughing at me. I glared at him and then at Tatiana. I didn’t care about Nicu, but her taking her cousin’s side stung. Well, he was family, but still. He’d refused to play with her. The snotty traitor!
“Fine, you ass. I’ll play.”
I pushed myself up and dragged my feet through the grass. I jumped over the ditch and walked to the middle of the court side Nicu had been in. The bastard Robert had the advantage, I had the sun in my eyes.
I’d watched them play, though. He’d beaten Nicu because he was stronger and a bit faster. But he had no finesse with the ball. I spent most of my time outside, running and playing. Somehow, this smug pretty boy seemed to be into different things. Probably kissing girls and going to the movies and other stupid shit.
He acted all nice and let me serve. I took full advantage of it and showed him what I was made of. I beat him easily after that. Robert was more concerned with talking to his cousins than paying attention to the game. I took it as an offense. He wanted to blame the loss on him being distracted. Ass!

Blurb:

When Daniel gets caught up in the demands of a cheeky wedding planning app, his fiancé Erik grows frustrated with his preoccupation with adhering to heterosexual traditions. Will Daniel’s groomzilla ways give them the wedding of their dreams, or ultimately lead to their relationship’s demise?

Excerpt:

“I think Aurora is disappointed in me.”

“What?” Erik rubbed at his eye. It wasn’t even early morning, judging by the weak light coming through the blinds from the streetlights. “Who?”

“Aurora. The wedding planning app.” Daniel lay on his back, wide awake and staring up at the ceiling.

“The wedding planning app is not a sentient being. It has no feelings or opinions.”

“I feel like she's judging me. I’m sorry if I woke you up.”

“Oh my god, go to sleep.”

“I can't. I'm never going to sleep ever again.” Daniel tugged the blanket higher up his chest, folding his arms over it and exhaling heavily.

“You're being dramatic.”

“I've got too many things buzzing in my head. There's too many things I'm going to forget to do.”

“I thought that's why you had that damn app, so you don't have to remember anything; it's all right there saved on your tablet.”

“Yes, but I have to remember to put everything in it.″ Daniel rolled over. ″She doesn't just know everything—”

“A: She is not a she. It is an it. B: What are we doing tomorrow?”

“Oh my god, what is the point of sharing the app calendar if you're never going to look at it?” Daniel wailed.

“I look at it. It's just crammed so full of everything that I have no idea what's going on when.”

Daniel blew out his breath. ”Look, I know you don’t like the calendar. We’ve been over that, but I don’t know how else to keep track of all of these appointments and deadlines.”

“I told you, we could color-code them, or something,” Erik rolled to his side and punched at his pillow.

“Aurora doesn’t give you that option.”

“Well, it should.”

“I agree, but there’s nothing I can do about that.” Daniel bunched his pillow up under his head.
“Tomorrow, we have four appointments to meet with caterers: two in the morning, two in the afternoon.”

“Why so many in one day?”

“It's the only day we both have available this week, and I am not going to make any decisions about the food at our reception without you there to discuss it.”

“Seriously, you could just make a choice, and I'll live with it.” Erik rolled over.

“I don't want you to just 'live with it,' Erik.″ Daniel tried to keep his voice neutral, but failed.
″This is our wedding. I don't want you to just 'live with it.’”

“Why are you getting so worked up about it?”

“We only get one chance at this. Everything needs to be perfect.”

“You're going to drive us both crazy, you know that, right?” Erik tugged the blankets back up over his shoulder.

“Well, then, we'll both be crazy.” Daniel squinted up at the ceiling. He was so tired of making these decisions. Why were there so many options? Why were there so many decisions? The planning was getting on Erik's nerves; he was getting on Erik's nerves. Erik was getting on his nerves. They were both just a pile of irritated nerves because the to-do list didn’t seem to be getting any smaller.

Daniel’s phone chimed with another notification from Aurora.

New Private Message from: MommyMargie.

His mother probably had another ludicrous suggestion for the reception, or a passive-aggressive reminder of the hymn that she and his father had had played at their wedding, that their grandparents had had played at their wedding and that she expected to hear at his wedding. Or maybe his parents had decided to paint the living room green. Who knew?
